I have been working at Unilever full-time

    Pros

Good working atmosphere with young people. It is a major company with good benefits and an international presence.

    Cons

Sometimes the hours can be long and the work can build up. However, mostly you get satisfaction when doing so.

    Advice to Management

It is highly important to keep motivating and guiding the management trainees at Unilever, as they might eventually become leaders of the company.

I have been working at Unilever full-time

    Pros

Great benefits, company mission and environmental commitment very positive, great mix of ages, nationalities, perspectives, products are loved

    Cons

Large company processes can get in the way of speed at times, advancement not always based on performance, location strategy is short sighted

    Advice to Management

More transparency would be helpful to give all levels a sense of ownership in achieving goals.

I have been working at Unilever full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I've met some great people in my time at Unilever.

    The company store is great.

    Cons

    Leadership operates in fear.
Lack of multicultural diversity and diversity in thought due to the terrible recruiting process and lack of commitment to diversify the workforce from leaders.
    Poor work/life balance
    Benefits cut
Talk the talk but dont walk the walk in terms of values.
Leaders are protected and not held accountable for any wrong doing.
Disconnect between global and local markets.
    Very high turnover.
    Very hard to get promoted.

    Advice to Management

Hold leadership accountable for diversifying the workforce.

Stop operating in fear. Stand for what is right.

Stop protecting bad leaders and empower employees.

More of a focus on development of talent internally.

I have been working at Unilever full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good corporate culture, excellent social values. Floating start time helps with the commute. Willingness to help move you to other opportunities outside of your original scope of work. A definite culture of development across the organization (less so for some functions). 401K match is good. Tuition reimbursement up to 100% for approved programs (up to a annual max). Work life balance is good based on department/manager. Parental benefits are getting better - paid at 100% for up to 4 weeks for corporate salaried male & females and expecting moms (corporate salaried) 12 weeks of paid leave at 100%. US HQ location is Englewood Cliffs and the office is newly renovated. It is an agile environment, therefore, don't expect a corner office. Very casual dress attire - slacks and a nice blouse or sweater or jeans everyday (your choice!)

    Cons

Location - Englewood Cliffs (NJ) is not an easy location to get to from NYC, CT or most of NJ. Slow to make decisions both at the country and global level. Can get political and be a popularity contest. Diversity is decent at the associate and manager level but horrific at the director and above - its a shame that a global corporation does not have better representation at the executive level in the United States of America. Money/budget is small -- maximize negotiations upon hire as merit budgets are typically less than 3%. Can get caught up to your elbows in the tactical elements of the job, which can be time consuming. Restructures are common practice. Performance culture can hinder sharing of best practices. Rating scale of 1-5, typical bell curve folks receive a 3. Company is not supportive of certifications for professional development (not covered under tuition reimbursement). Multiple roles across the business have been collapsed into single positions therefore making jobs huge.

    Advice to Management

Slow to make decisions. Excessive focus on budget and money since the Kraft-Heinz bid in January 2017. Link development to leadership goals/bonuses as this will lead to greater support of personal development. Managers need to learn to be better people managers - the art of communication, being transparent and honesty can go a long way. Don't keep people around because you like their work enough and they keep things going - if they desire upward movement and they won't get it at Unilever, be honest and tell them.

    Pros

Great company with pleasant professional people to work with. People given opportunity to express their ideas and considered. Off hands management at times can be both a plus and negative.

    Cons

Very demanding at times and loosely managed periodically. Hands off management can increase stress at times when slow to respond to underlying issues until at times becomes a top priority and always in fire fighting mode.

    Advice to Management

Put the right people in position to succeed and positive mentors
