I worked at Unilever (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fantastic calibre of people and brands that I had the pleasure of working with in the UK, US, Africa Middle East and India for over 15 years at all levels from staff to main board. Structured and planned for the long term unlike many businesses I have worked with since. Looked after us well when the business unit I was working for was sold. I look back on my time with Unilever a little wistfully having found that the grass is rarely greener. Unilever asked me back to consult for them a couple of years after I left (pre the 2013 option on this app) and I would happily do so again.

    Cons

While I was there, a tendency to over-intellectualise rather than having a bias to action. I believe this has changed since I left.

    Advice to Management

Well done for the efficient and speedy way you consigned the KraftHeinz approach to the bin where it deserved to be. Hold on to what makes Unilever the exceptional company that it is as you try to reshape the business going forward. Hard to build the employer brand credentials Unilever deservedly has and very easy to lose

I worked at Unilever full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great and flexible working environment, emphasis on good work/life balance. No 8 in the world of the best companies to work for according to linked in..

Salary ranges are median to the industry but there are really good benefits in the form of share schemes, onsite catering, onsite gym, secure parking, pension, healthcare and discounts on various goods. A great place to work and also highly recommended if you're a graduate or thinking of an apprenticeship. It's an amazing place to work with lots of room to step upwards or sideways in your career - you just need the hunger and the ambition to get there.

    Cons

It goes with the territory with most large companies, depending on the tower you're placed in - there can be some politics to deal with especially if you're heading towards middle management.

    Advice to Management

Generally I've had great experience with management - however, there is a culture of "you must deliver to your development target" in some cases where it's clearly not beneficial or relevant and where it's not been fully thought out. We just need to be brave enough to say "that was OK at the time but things have changed" or "this is just not relevant anymore".
