I worked at Union Bankshares (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice people, easy day to day work, great customer service experience

    Cons

Very boring. Interns get none of the benefits that regular employees do for completing the same tasks

    Pros

independent decision making, flexible but long hours

    Cons

lack of leadership with constant non-constuctive criticizm of 30 year veteran in specialized field

    Advice to Management

know the true feelings of lower tier employees, do not depend on personal ideals.

    Pros

Management really cares about employees. Benefits and compensation are above average. The work experience is reasonably low stress and goals are realistic and achievable.

    Cons

Communication within the company in general needs improvement; IT not up to speed at this point but improving.

    Advice to Management

Keep things headed in the direction you are going. I am encouraged by the company's choice of new President coming in October.

I worked at Union Bankshares full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Health Insurance and paid vacation time are top in the industry. The amount of PTO that is given is great and the amount of health plans are superb.

Low stress environment is also a plus.

    Cons

This company was one of the best in terms of culture, that sadly is gone in 2016. The technology is decades behind and lack of competitive products across a highly competitive industry hurts. The executive team seems to be worried about anything but the major issues that are happening right now and there is no hope for progress.

Pay is also very poor. It is supposedly "market based" however the pay scales are hidden and you will never know what it is possible to make.

This is a low stress job compared to other banks however recently there have been changes to try and become a "bigger" bank without any progress in systems or products. This doesn't work and this bank will eventually be purchased .

    Advice to Management

Start investing in products and technology. If you don't the bank will continue to lose customers at a growing rate!

    Pros

Best, family friendly, caring community of employees I've ever know. Everyone is focused on helping their customers. Extremely kind and loyal people, who want to do the right thing.

    Cons

Many business line silos. Not a collaborative or creative work environment. Company and industry are very process oriented verse idea oriented. Can be very frustrating.

    Advice to Management

Pros: Great benefits! Cons: Communication is not the same thing as collaboration.

    Pros

Growing organization with lots of opportunity, great benefits, great work environment. Lots of flexibility, good incentive program. Supportive culture, great place to grow a career.

    Cons

Some growing pains as the organization matures. Otherwise, nothing negative to say. Great place to work.

    Pros

Good, close-knit relationships with peers and other groups, decent hours, decent pay, support from upper management

    Cons

Innovative techniques giving other banks an edge are lacking here, and there is distance between the community bank feel that is the goal, and the goal of growth. There aren't always enough resources to go around.

    Advice to Management

Decide what direction you want to head in and focus all your resources there. If you want cutting-edge talent, it doesn't come cheaply.

I have been working at Union Bankshares full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good people to work with, close knit group between the branches and everyone is willing to help each other out.

    Cons

Upper management doesn't really see what happens in the trenches. They expect you to hit goals and numbers without seeing the quality of opportunities that you are given. Bank is a conservative lender, but they still up your goals every year.

    Advice to Management

Work harder to connect with the people you manage. Teammates see you as figures, but have no personal relationship with you.

I worked at Union Bankshares full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice people depending on the branch. Good benifits. Great hours. Training program was extensive and fun. Paid for hotel and food.

    Cons

Work is a little tedious but that's the same at any bank. Hard to break the monotony. Cold calling does happen and it's no fun.

    Advice to Management

Keep treating people well! Training is fantastic. Show people a path chart on how they can grow in the company do they see an end game for their career.

    Pros

Great people and a focus on training and where you want to go as a professional.

    Cons

Lack of internal communication, lack of clear party scale, in general low pay.

    Advice to Management

Focus on communication between retail and other parts of the company. Make pay scale visible in order to give current employees something to strive for.
