I have been working at Union County Public Schools full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Administration is outstanding. They do not micro manage, but at the same time run a tight ship. They respect the fact that teachers should know how to do their, jobs and hire accordingly. Dr. Jonathan Tyson Is a fantastic addition to the school.

    Cons

The county office has no idea what any of the actual concerns are in the schools and instead focus on education buzz words and other "time wasting programs" that they spent money on and feel obligated to push on school for no other reason than justification of a previous bad decision. Teachers are forced to sit through multi hour training sessions regularly. We are taught common sense material such as "If one teaching strategies fails you, Try another" and so on. Abstinence is the only form of sex education which is archaic. There is a bible studies class some how?????? Only a bible studies class. No other religion or world religions are taught. Opportunities is rated low due to state legislation on tenure, removal of all pay steps and removal of masters pay incentives.

    Advice to Management

Stop employing superintendents that have only taught in middle school. It has become obvious in the past few years that the majority of the middle school educators that seek district level jobs are intellectual cowards, that take easy classes because they are dumb or lazy.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Union County Public Schools part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I have loved working in Monroe because the district is relatively progressive and the student population is very diverse.

    Cons

This remains a good ole boy system but is beginning to change by hiring an out of state Superintendent. In the past, you needed to be "known" in order for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Put the needs of the students first and foremost while protecting the rights of the teachers in order to achieve high expectations, high morale and high standards of success.

    Pros

All county schools treat their substitutes with the up most respect. As a substitute you have the flexibility to schedule your own days and times as well as the location you want to work.

    Cons

The only con I have found as a substitute is that you can not work more than 4 days during the week to remain under full time status.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work! I loved the school system when I was a student and I love it still. Each employee receives the respect they deserve.
