"Don’t leave a job for UP"

    I worked at Union Pacific

    Pros

Pay is good. Benefits are good.

    Cons

Everything else. The current business model places employees dead last on the list. You seriously do not know from day to day if the career you have worked so hard for, sacrifices so much to build, will end without cause or rationalization beyond corporate greed.

I have been working at Union Pacific full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good pay if you work more than 220 hours, not including time spent in hotels away from home, a month, and if you can get the carrier to actually pay you

    Cons

Horrible hours, complete lack of personal time of any kind only allowed an average of one day off a month. The claim of paid leave and vacation adding up to 6+ weeks is only after working for 30 years, at the start you get 3 days a year and 2 weeks vacation which isn’t bad if you didn’t have to use your vacation time for Dr appointments or sick time(which is what the company believes it’s meant for)

I worked at Union Pacific full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good pay. Railroad retirement if you stay long enough. 401k Good, hard working people at the working level.

    Cons

Not much work/family/life balance. Work around the clock. No longer provide pension. Upper management seems more interested in shareholders than employees and customers. Seems employees & customers are less valued. Not much loyalty left. Everyone looking over their shoulder,. Less teamwork. Less feeling of company ownership.
