    Pros

Direct supervisors and managers are great people to work for. Follow QC Inspectors are nice and helpful. Workers on the floor (welders, support, etc.) are nice and hard working

    Cons

Upper management and HR work hand in hand, like a good old boy network. In my opinion, the HR department holds to much of the power.

I have been working at Union Tank Car full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Overall compensation is pretty good and actually equal to that of many entry level professional positions. If you have the patience and desire to advance the opportunities are definitely there. Safety is equally aligned with production, depending on your supervisor, so rest assured you will go home safely tonight with work to do tomorrow.

    Cons

The management team and continuous talk of industry changes have everyone walking on eggshells. The hours you work can definitely be brutal. If you DON'T work overtime, your paycheck definitely reflects that, but you'll get a fair work/life balance. If you DO work overtime, you will be properly compensated, but you will likely be too worn out to have any bit of work/life balance.

I worked at Union Tank Car (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Close to where I used to live in the country and had a 4 day on 3 day off schedule.

    Cons

It is an accident waiting to happen. like Murphy's Law it's not if.. it is when. Mesothelioma is not a good thing either.....just saying....

    Advice to Management

    Good Luck

I worked at Union Tank Car full-time

    Pros

Stable job and Income to raise a family on. You know exactly what is expected of you. Good training program and hr department

    Cons

Employees are now a number instead of a name. No company partys the employees that DO their jobs must also do the jobs of the deadbeats. foreman favorites with clean easy jobs. employer could care less what good employees think if you are in the union and seriously follow the union you are an enemy of company if you're an officer they will give you outsides bonuses to leave union and come over to company

    Advice to Management

appreciate your employees and take care of them have company parties for the families you show your appreciation to employees you get good workers in return treat them like a number and get a huber back that will screw you in work hours every time. 20 hours of work for 40 hours pay

    Pros

UTLX is a growing company but has slow periods. The work keeps you busy and the people are helpful and knowledgeable.

    Cons

There was a period of layoffs a few years ago. This has made the production staff paranoid. It is not know when the market will fluctuate but informing the floor would help morale.

    Advice to Management

Try to keep people involved and share information that could help improve morale.
