I worked at Unisys (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great projects with integrated teams with subcontractors. Excellent benefits, treated as professional with wonderful team mates. Good working environment with excellent tools to provide an excellent level of work. Very interesting contracts to be a part of and make a contribution.

    Cons

Upper management at customer site change often causing you to start over to win your credability with them. So many meetings without action items resolved. Needed better communication between different entities within the Company as well as with the customer base on the contract.

    Advice to Management

Better communication between management and employees on changes in organization prior to action taken after the fact. Need to have tighter project management activities. Many good managers but so pressed to perform at warp speed, everything needed yesterday.

    Pros

The pitch made was quite strong. You will be part of a team, the door is always open, we have these projects lined up, lots to do. Nice folks, probably believed the pitch when they made it.

    Cons

Subcontractor to a subcontractor relationship. No control over employee's duties, no impact on projects, and supervisors were really not in the technical hierarchy for the position they hired for. Job was a chance to have another contract worker, plain and simple.
After being hired the only thing anyone at Unisys talked to me about was filling out my timesheet.
Was put to work in a badly disorganized department headed by an incompetent.

    Advice to Management

Take care to remain relevant to your own employees. Don't send them off to work with someone who has no motivation to use their talents. Most importantly if someone is supposed to be their immediate superior within Unisys, have them do more than stop and chat about current events once every six months.

    Pros

Training, great benefits, challenging projects. Co workers are pleasant. Leadership generally is helpful in provideing direction for the project. Amen.

    Cons

As a governement contractor, and this is no fault of Unisys, you may end up packed into cubicles that have no view of anything.

    Advice to Management

If there is anyway to negotiate to work off site in less crowded facilities, then I would say that is the one thing that would improve the Unisys work experience.
