I worked at Unisys full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people are amazing. They truly try to do the best they can though understaffed, undertrained, and with obsolete tools.

    Cons

The red tape, the resistance to change, the one trick mentality that everything is solved by headcount reductions, the lack of any training to field workers, the low wages to anyone below management... I can go on.

    Advice to Management

Let the account team manage their slice of the business. Stop trying to fix contracts that were born broken thanks to the Sales Teams by punishing the field people. Stop trying to screw the customer once you get to the point where there is no more fat to trim.

    Pros

Wonderful people with technical talent. Hard working with the desire to win.. at times a question of consulting vs system integrator.

    Cons

Moving away from their core business. Need to find what they do well in and discover why clients buy from them. There is value but needs to be articulated.

    Advice to Management

Find out why clients buy from Unisys

I worked at Unisys full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

During my time at Unisys I could NOT find a single positive thing to say about this company. Absolutely nothing good about this company. I wish we could give ZERO stars

    Cons

Zero stars. One of the worst companies I have ever had the displeasure of working for. They're disorganized, their benefits are not comparable to other companies and the so called "leaders" are laughable. Unisys is your typical head shop concerned only with ensuring workers are billable, but have zero interest in developing their careers or making them feel as if they're part of a company. If you're considering Unisys, I strongly advise you to look at another company where you'll be appreciated, offered great benefits and a chance to grow professionally. Best career move I made was leaving Unisys and seeing what other companies had to offer which was a thousand times better than anything I ever had at Unisys.

    Advice to Management

Learn to manage and take a sincere interest in your employees.

    Pros

You get to work on big, government contracts.

    Cons

The company environment is very political - not in the Republican v Democrat way - but in terms of power plays, etc inside projects and inside the company. They staff their projects - even US taxpayer-funded projects - with a lot of imported, foreign workers. Foreign IT workers outnumber US workers by a large margin on their projects - even on US government projects. The work is not "outsourced" to Indian. The foreigners are imported to the US to do the work, right inside US government facilities. Additionally, once your project ends, you are on your own and out the door very quickly.

    Advice to Management

Stop using foreign workers to staff US-taxpayer funded, US government projects.

    Pros

excellent salary and benefits. Agreeable team mates. good training available

    Cons

a lack of documented processes made it difficult to work remotely. Employees habitually walked around from one department to another to engineer solutions and produce proposals.

    Pros

Contract was long term and the people that worked at the company was very easy to work for and with.

    Cons

Unisys rarely give raise and the pay wasn't that good. Has an incentive pay that almost never is reached.

    Advice to Management

Treat you employees better and you want have turnover all the time

I worked at Unisys as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Unisys has some very good people at the non-management levels

    Cons

Unisys wins no awards for ethics with me. They have no problem with breaching contracts because they have the money to afford the legal fight and have a very well -written contract that plays into shady business practices.

    Advice to Management

    Follow your ethics policy

    Pros

Well know IT company with mega million contract an a new CEO who is aggressive in building business. He turned MICROS Systems (Oracle) into a major international player.

    Cons

Seem to be a bit top heavy with top management and executives for a 20K person company. The proposal teams are small and good at re-compete business but not new business.

    Advice to Management

Stop cutting lower level staff and thin out some of the management level. Put more money in the proposal writing budget for additional staff.

I worked at Unisys full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A lot of information to soak up and to learn process, process, process!

    Cons

Too many bids were lost over price and not technical innovation. All too often people would let this area slide or wait until it was too late to pull the bid. That tears up a team that is diligently working against the clock for a potential Win! Too many layers of Executive reviews that hindered the sales teams to be fluid when under a bid timeline.

    Advice to Management

Develop a better cost model so you can be more price competitive with Federal Systems. Either groom it to sell it or overhaul and make it more competitive and back in to being one of the top 25 in defense!
