I have been working at United Airlines part-time

    Pros

I love people. Their stories and integrity will always amaze me and TEACH me. Do not judge a book by its cover until you've walked a mile through it. I've worked in high paying management positions where stress can get to you over time... and where you are also stuck in your own office for long lengths of time with little to no human interaction. I will never go back to that. I took a chance at change taking the job I have now with United. I decreased my pay substantially and increased by commute 100%. Why? At first it was about people and wanting to be around more in general. And now seeing the return in the form of smiles and thank you is one of the best gifts and highest paying perks a person can unknowingly receive. Me and most of my co-workers go above and beyond for each person we interact with. United is your family when you are not home or have none. There is always someone, somewhere for you if you need it. United through it all!

    Cons

Must have thick skin, empathy, sympathy. The reason the average person travels (leisure, vacation, etc.) isn't the reason others may be traveling (tragedy). As in any customer service job. If you don't have some form of compassion that you can hold a grip on you may not last. Remember the story and use it as your guide. Also remember that the airport and operation never closes. You may be required to work at any given time or day. Most don't mind but some do and I've seen great people leave over that alone. Remember that is a huge choice you make when accepting the offer for employment. Do not waste their time and money on training, uniforms, badging, etc. if you don't think you can work late hours, holidays, your birthday, your kids birthday, etc. You can find people to trade with but it's never a guarantee.

    Advice to Management

I have none as I've interacted with management as high up as Oscar Munoz. They are truly wonderful people and most of them have your interest at heart, not just theirs.
