I worked at United Airlines as an intern

    Pros

There were a lot of knowledgeable people in my department. I was able to work with many engineers who were passionate about aerospace, and learned way more about airplanes than I would have from a book. There's a lot of hands on work

    Cons

It's a VERY slow moving company. It may take a week for a project to advance a small step because of corporate bureaucracy

    Advice to Management

Try and find ways to streamline company operations, especially when it comes to installing software on company work stations

I have been working at United Airlines full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Most people at united are trying hard to get things done
Pay is at market for those in the support center
Good opportunity for bonus, etc. when company is doing well
Ongoing employee surveys for culture are good, as long as the feedback is used to improve
Work/life balance is pretty good and ample opportunities for volunteerism exist
    Lots of Business Resource Groups

    Cons

Cronyism still pervades - senior leaders place their friend sin roles when they are not qualified for the role
HR is a disaster - any complaints are ignored or not handled well.

I have been working at United Airlines full-time

    Pros

certain programs are filled with people who are there to help - developing U, (not supervisors)
    unorganized administrators

    Cons

you have to find your own benefits information
    feel dispensable
    too many employees

    Advice to Management

care about your employees? if you choose a supervisor position, be good at it, be accessible. if you're payroll, don't lose checks, if you're a director, know your employees and their opinions. if you're a flight attendant, be responsible for your own space, do your part everyone.

I have been working at United Airlines part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Can work from home, flexible, shift trades, paid vacation, insurance, retirement program, 401k, your same level co-workers are great to work with, top out pay is decent after 10 years, profit sharing and of course flight benefits by far.

    Cons

Local upper management is poor. They are very focused on numbers since merger and really seem to do minimal. Opportunities are provided for growth are very minimal--it more of lateral opportunities. Very in or out crowd oriented when it comes to opportunities. If you are a brown nose then opportunities can be yours, if not good luck. It's a mainly just a who you know and those who work there can tell you that.

    Advice to Management

I think it's important to keep in mind what you do for one you do for all Union mentality. Opportunities have never been provided fairly as it is very cliquish. I know they know what I am talking about because we have the same few people given opportunities all the time. Union posting for opportunities tend to be a fake, as they are given to appear they are being fair because it's required. However in reality that is not the case. Look beyond the flaws and find yourself leadership that is real.
