Do not work here.
Mar 23, 2020 - IT Project Coordinator in Elk Grove Village, ILRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The Pay was decent but that was because I negotiated with my contracting company in order for them to give me a higher salary. Thats it
Cons
Poorly managed up until the very end but the only reason why they finally stepped up and took control is because they were getting rid of the department I was in. They waste money hand over fist at this place. I'm talking about boxes full to the brim with Iphone 6's. On top of that, there is a bin full of sometimes brand new technology that we literally throw away. Everyone there seems to be out for themselves. Don't let the Job title fool you either. this job has little to do with IT and more to do with managing assets and warehouse work. Shipping things out via fedex and a lot of heavy lifting. Then once the corona virus hit I was fired immediately on a wednesday without any prior notice.

Jun 30, 2014 - Flight Attendant in London, EnglandRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Meeting lots of great staff who become friends. Travel opportunities. Lots of days off (for flight attendants and pilots). Good opportunity to meet interesting passenger too. A fun job.
Cons
The beginning salary for flight attendants is low (but better than at UK airlines) it increases to a good salary after 5 years of work.

Great place to work, keep cutting bonuses
Aug 15, 2015 - Senior Technology Development Engineer in Houston, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Challenging interesting work environment. I am able to work on pretty much anything that is of interest that comes through the pipeline. Lots of cool technology to work on. I came in with a decent set of skills but my skill set now allows me to be extremely marketable. Great medical benefits. Flight benefits. Awesome team environment and not micro managing what hour I get in or what hour I leave. Lots of skilled developers that push you farther as a developer and increase your personal skill level.
Cons
I am making the same salary I came in despite extraordinary efforts by my direct managers to get above and beyond raises for me. The bonus restructuring and profit sharing have tanked my earnings potential at United even with company profits continuing to sore. My skillet has grown so much since I started and my salary is no where near where it should be.

Excellent environment

Coworkers, management, and executives are almost entirely great people who care about your career - for example when I told my previous department director that I was bored with the work in that department and wanted to go somewhere else in the company, he was extremely supportive and honestly wanted me to be happy. My current department is very flexible with time (having to leave early for an appointment etc). Free flight benefits are awesome. Under the new CEO, employees are generally excited to work here.
Cons
Salary is a little lower compared to other industries (not surprising given the financial instability in the industry). While the official benefits are excellent, a lot of little perks from my previous company are missing (company paid outings, meals, etc).

Opportunities for career advancement
Feb 25, 2022 - Senior Manager, Analytics in Chicago, ILRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Been able to grow my career at the company. For the longest time work life balance was great. Appreciate the culture and values of the company given political climate
Cons
Reduction in workforce and paying below market rate salaries means attrition and heavy workload for others still around.
- Current Employee★★★★★
Pros
Great Company...Great potential to advance if your are well equipped. Great flight benefits. And very competitive salary
Cons
Seniority seems to be more valued over education and skills. Networking seems like the best way to move around in this company.

United Airlines
Jun 11, 2008 - Administrative Assistant in San Francisco, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
United Airlines has excellent travel benefits for employees, parents and dependents. It is standby travel in any class of service and it is easy for employees to check the flight loads. Employees can sit in first class on an international flight and they pay a small fee. United has very good employees and it is really easy to make friends there. The work schedule is flexible.
Cons
The salaries are very low and the airline industry is unstable. United is reducing their workforce and have many layoffs now. The oil prices are so high now causing the airlines to ground more planes and reduce their staff, so it is not a good time to work in the airline industry. The employee morale is low and there is a lot of tension between management and the employees. There are not many opportunities for promotions.

Pros
I have been with UA 36+ years. Held many positions - in past positions salary was adequate, good benefits, flexibility of travel.
Cons
Although past position salary was adequate in current position after furlough from other position and pandemic. took job as SR Coordinator in present position salary well below nations average based on contribution/tasks that job requires. Company treats as entry level admin job when in fact is more like a Back Office Manages position.
