    ?

May 4, 2010 - Customer Service Representative in Washington, DC
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

The flexibility for getting time off or picking up hours from other agents. The medical and flight benefits are among the best in the industry. The people I work with daily are like my second family. We are what keeps one-another happy at United.

    Cons

Upper Management at Dulles have their 'favorites' that they keep bringing into the station. They fire good people to only back fill the positions with their people. The current upper management is the worst we have ever had. They are not by any means personable to the employees. Half the agents don't even recognize the Station Manager because she is not personable like some managers we have had in the past. A lot of our Supervisors are afraid to make a decision for the fear of losing their job for that decision. The Supervisors are like puppets at Dulles, I have never seen so many so unhappy. Our current Management regime needs to be reorganized.

A lot of rework in IT world.. need to plan right.

May 6, 2015 - Manager in Chicago, IL
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Job security which may not last long once they figure out how to avoid rework in IT. However, that would be ethically correct.

    Cons

Frustration about rework and unprofessionalism. Some of the upper management does not understand what they are doing and try to manipulate the system just because of attitude issues.

    Went downhill after merger

Dec 6, 2019 - Senior Developer in Houston, TX
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Innovative, up on trends (as far as technology), decent benefits

    Cons

Upper Management are not willing to compromise or hear opinions of the people who actually work on the tools. They operate with the mentality of 'get it done by any means necessary'. There are many non-technical people making technical decisions because everyone 'high up' got there via nepotism. 0 work-life balance...they could really care less!

Go to another airline before you ruin your career at United

Apr 21, 2009 - Manager in San Francisco, CA
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

The flight privileges are terrific. I have been to places that people can only dream about. If you have good seniority like I did, the airline can become your own personal jet fleet. Hop on a plane after work to LAX for dinner and be back the same night. There are many good people working at United, union workers included, who try to do the right thing to keep the airline flying. The people are down to earth and there is little pretention. They have just been distracted so much with all the problems with the airline industry - 9/11, bankruptcy, losing pensions, high fuel costs, merger rumors etc. The airline has good products such as economy plus and the new international business class cabins. I view it as a top tier domestic airline and was proud to be associated with the airline product.

    Cons

Management is too concerned with hiding their mistakes and looking good for their bosses. Many of the people in mid and upper management at United are not qualified to be in the positions they are in. Many moved their way up because all the good people left during the bankruptcy years. I wonder if many in management could even get the same position if they were forced to reapply for their jobs? My manager did not even finish college. You work with and work for a lot of dumb people who are frauds that know how to BS and it can get frustrating. Some in management also lacks ethics and integrity. They will lie to your face and embarass you to save their asses.

    Okay people, bad management

Nov 2, 2022 - Senior Engineer in San Francisco, CA
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Standby flight benefits allow you to travel internationally for free. Learn about aircraft components that get lost in the minutia of maintenance.

    Cons

Management direction has been less and less clear after each successive reorganization. Upper management is unclear on what the function of the group is and has never bothered to understand. Upper management is also unwilling to appropriately compensate the engineering structure as a whole. Be willing to stomach a lot of nepotism if United is your avenue to fulfill your dream of working in aviation.

Dec 28, 2013 - Cargo Sales in Atlanta, GA

    Pros

    Working together was our motto

    Cons

Upper management is demolishing the yes we can attitude and replacing the employees with contract workers!:/
