    Pros

Very supportive of their employees. Really go out of their way to support work/life balance. Very sensitive to family issues.

    Cons

There is a noticeable lack of complete process documentation. There are many subject matter experts, but a lot of their knowledge is not documented.

I worked at United Communications Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Commitment to publishing quality products. Freedom to work from office, home, while traveling and exploring the world.

    Cons

Their idea of scaling to changes in the economy include salary cuts for the lifeblood of the company to ensure that the partners achieved their return on investment. The partners fancy themselves shrewd entrepreneurs, but poor decisions on some acquisitions trickled down to hurt employees.

    Advice to Management

You cannot simultaneously plan for and prevent technology expense. Go all in or go home.

    Pros

Great perks like free soft drinks and fruit. And a company trip every 5 years. Probably also could be a good place for journalists; I was a marketer.

    Cons

Micromanagement combined with a culture of intimidation and fear.

    Advice to Management

Don't have the journalists manage the marketers.

    Pros

    Casual dress code
    Open leave policy
    Greatest co-workers EVER
    Flexible work environment
    Good community involvement
Long tenure of employees- good sign

UCG is hands-down the best company I've ever worked for. I actually enjoy going to work every day. It's the people that really make it, though- this is an amazing, wonderful group of individuals and it's like a big family.

    Cons

Some of the positions work later hours (maybe 9:30-6:30 instead of your typical 8-5), but that's really the only "con" if you don't like to work past 5 pm. A lot of the positions are flexible though, so if want to be out by 5 every day, you'd just have to find one of the positions where you can do that.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the fantastic work!

Raises are not consistently given throughout the company
No opportunities for advancement / career growth
    Low morale in some groups

    Advice to Management

    Keep the entrepreneurial spirit alive
Provide team building in those groups that need it
Have management focus on improving morale
