    1. Experience the high level political environment.
    2. definitely a diverse work place, officers there are nice. You could have lots intern friends from different countries.

    Cons

    1. no paid. It's not friendly especially in New York.
    2. Interns have little chance to be full time employee.

    Very positive work atmosphere. Great goals. Interesting work.

    Supervisors were often absent. Sometimes the work was slow.

    I have been working at United Nations full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    -Very colorful personalities and interesting people from all over the world
    -Fascinating and relevant work
    -No two days are alike
    -fair salary and great benefits
    -sense of really belonging to a global family

    Cons

    -sometimes people's egos get the best of them and they overstate their own importance
    -extremely hierarchical (kind of in a boarding school type of way)
    -bureaucratic
    -plenty of hidden rules
    -some truly tired and unmotivated colleagues who have been in their posts for too long and are either frustrated or bored

    Advice to Management

    get rid of the people who do not really want to be there so that fresh and eager talent can continue to move the organization forward. The world still needs the UN.

    Great organization, focused workforce, amazing guidance, general feel for doing substantive work in an important environment

    Some hiring practices are dated and need review, tough and arduous to move up the ladder
