I worked at United Regional Health Care System full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The teamwork is really good among the staff. Patient care is always the number one concern of all of the hospital staff. Patient satisfaction is highly assessed.

    Cons

After ensuring each patient receives proper care, each floor has different "requirements" of what they feel is most important. Nurse to patient ratio could be better.

    Advice to Management

    Reduce nurse to patient ratio.

I worked at United Regional Health Care System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company seemed to offer good benefits for individuals just getting started in there careers but very little growth is available with the company so i was bored quickly

    Cons

i felt like a number, no room for growth, not very understanding when life events happened and only concerned with the business not their employees

    Advice to Management

get to know employees better, have a better understanding and realize you were once in their shoes as well and the turn over rate will decrease

    Pros

Great coworkers, job stability, overtime is always available. Highest paying nursing job in Wichita Falls area.

    Cons

PTO is difficult to use. Very hard to utilize PTO for time off. Difficult to get through HR. Only one person from HR does the hiring process for the entire hospital.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate the hard working employees that dedicate their lives to your department. Acknowledgment of hard work is always appreciated.

I worked at United Regional Health Care System full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good retirement match of up to 5%. It takes 6 years to be fully vested.

    Cons

Benefit structure is poor. Employee pay 100% of vision and dental benefits. Premiums are high and deductibles super high leaving the employee with large amounts of out of pocket. Management is horrible is some departments. I quit my job because of a micromanaging supervisor. Some higher levels remote into work without visual observing how the department is actually done. Low morale in lots of departments.

    Advice to Management

Don't place people in management positions if they are not people persons and like to find fault of others, but not accountable for their own mistakes.

    Pros

United Regional is a non-profit hospital so the profit goes back in to the hospital and not in a shareholding board-member's pocket. Because of this, United Regional has money to invest in expansion, renovation, and hiring and retaining quality workers. The mission statement (divided into two statements) is: PASSION- to provide excellence in healthcare to the communities we serve. PURPOSE-to make a positive difference in the lives of others. These are more than catchy slogans designed to impress the public. The CEO and Management of the hospital actively work toward these goals and over the last 15 years or so, have made some impressive changes by implementing nationally recognized systems specifically designed to bring patient care to the highest standards possible. They actively engage employees by having them set goals within their own department to reach these standards and provide bonuses yearly based on achievement of those goals. The bonuses go to the employees, not the management. United Regional also provides feedback in "Employee Forums" four times a year where the CEO speaks to every employee about a wide range of hospital issues from "State of the Union" to tracking bonus status to gossip. They also put out a monthly magazine and weekly email "What's going on" letters in addition to having an active employee website that provides information, free education opportunities and tuition reimbursement information. There are celebration events at Christmas, during Hospital Week, during Nurses Week as well as an annual All Employee Event where the entire staff of the hospital gets bused offsite to see a play (usually involving senior management dress in hilarious outfits and a really good speaker). The hospital also regularly compares employee earnings to hospitals of similar size and makeup to ensure that they are competitive with wages and retain employees. They give across the board pay increases if they find they are falling behind in an area. The benefits are good and the health insurance has remained remarkably stable despite nationwide increases in cost to the employee in most companies. United Regional is a hospital that takes it's responsibility to patients and employees very seriously and works hard to be the best it can be. If you are willing to do the same, there is a good job in there for you somewhere.

    Cons

It is in Wichita Falls, Texas which is located in the vast purgatory between Dallas / Fort Worth and Oklahoma City. It is usually way to hot, sometimes way too cold and for two weeks in spring and two weeks in summer it is perfect weather. The hospital takes a while to learn to navigate. It is two buildings (the new one is called a "Tower"- I don't know why) connected by a "Sky Bridge " that connects them over a street below. No two floors in either building have the same floor pattern. Not all the elevators reach all the floors and the "Tower" elevators talk to you in that creepy computer voice that manages to say "Going up" in a disjointed way that sounds like it was spliced together from two different speeches given by someone who is not quite right to start with.

    Advice to Management

Not everyone is well suited to work at United Regional. If you don't like people and have a true desire to help people or you have worked in a place that dealt in morally gray areas and you are comfortable with that, well, you probably want to look for something else. You are not going to do well at United Regional.

    Pros

Everyone is so friendly and most genuinely love their job. It has a great teamwork environment

    Cons

Scheduling. It seems like we are extremely understaffed some days and extremely overstaffed others. It seems like something that needs to be looked at.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget that you have an RN behind your name just like your staff. When things get messy, don't be afraid to get out on the floor.
