I have been working at United Rentals full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent pay, benefits and no weekends.

    Cons

Feels very unstable. Promise you 50 hours a week and then will cut them to 40 with no intention to return. Does not feel like employees are valued at all.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your employees and make them feel valued.

I worked at United Rentals full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I enjoyed the people the most. Benefits were great, 401K match was good but you have to work a minimum of two years to get the pay out and they don't share that part with you. They put you through a training program for equipment knowledge and Rental Man training.

    Cons

Frustrating working in the call center, the programming is difficult to learn at first and you are on the phone under pressure right away with little to no training. I started in the Sales Associate program with commission opportunity, then moved into ISR role losing my commission. Long hours 7-5 (sometimes 6)

I have been working at United Rentals full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Decent benefits
    Decent pay
    Decent perks
Overall not a bad place to start a career but wouldn't recommend finishing one there. I've been looking for a door for years. I got stuck when I was younger. I recommend coming in learning the trade and moving on.

    Cons

No work life balance to speak of. Used to have to work Saturdays but not anymore (although a few stores are still open then). Pay is okay but not great. Long hours sometimes. Getting to work at 6 and leaving at 6-7 is not a good way to keep happy employees.

    Advice to Management

Upper management should care more about the everyday employees. Many are burnt out and agitated and branch managers don't care because they have to much pressure on them from you.

I have been working at United Rentals full-time

    Pros

It tells a lot about a company when the senior leadership has worked their way up through the ranks. CEO Michael Kneeland built his entire career in the rental business--working on the front lines in sales and operations before he eventually made his way to the top job. UR promotes from within and rewards their people for strong performance.

If you work hard, have good sales skills, embrace technology, collaborate well with others, and put the customers first, you will have a great career with UR.

I particularly like how they go out of their way to hire veterans, women, and minorities.

    Cons

It's a big corporation now, so it comes with some of the corporate bureaucracy and inefficiency that all big companies have. But compared to other similarly sized companies, UR is better than most when it comes to corporate BS.

Sometimes management can be a little too conservative and we lose opportunities to competitors that should have been ours.

    Advice to Management

We are world class at sales and execution in our existing business. Let's do something big and bold again with an acquisition or two. We can handle it!

I worked at United Rentals full-time

    Pros

The company has good/ fair pay to it's employees.
The company has good long hours for those who like to work a lot.
Overall good people in the workplace.

    Cons

The Company has mandatory overtime that is required daily. Long hours, 12 hour days are not uncommon, five days a week, Saturdays when busy.Tons of Micro Management, and Poor training, learn as you go attitude.

    Advice to Management

Employees need to be treated better with respect, and threatened less about being fired if they do not obey. The team needs to be led by example and not by barking.
