    Pros

    Cons

this is a very large company. It is easy to feel very small working here.

I have been working at United Rentals full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Ability to move up is there but man do they put you thru the ringer here. Low pay and they make the ISR do everything. Bare boned branches. Always changing leadership. The only pro is maybe a monthly branch lunch and you don’t have to pay for your uniform, but they sure make you work for it. They’re always hiring because they can’t keep anyone longer than a few years.

    Cons

Mass email communication. Everyone calls each other out. Only a select few know the equipment and they don’t teach anyone anything. They just expect you to keep your mouth shut and share holders happy.

    Advice to Management

Remember your roots. As soon as they get a little bit of power, it all goes to your head. Don’t be a corporate pig and micro manage machines. Remember this wasn’t anyone’s dream, no one ever thought they would be working in rentals when they were young, so stop acting like your better than everyone else.

I worked at United Rentals full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Solid hours, benefits, compensation Some really great people Growth is possible

    Cons

To grow you have to either know someone in the in-crowd or hang the moon as you get to know them. You can bring ideas forward that are shut down over and over and then presented to you by your boss 3 weeks later as some grand plan they've concocted. Too many people in positions because they fit the profile for what UR wants in diversity...not necessarily because they do the job. You have people who failed as... sales reps holding management positions. You have "clique" favorites that pretty much run the show in some regards.

    Advice to Management

Try to curb favoritism. Promote on Merit (Not on brown-nosing or diversity) Diversity is great but when you're propping people up that aren't prepared the entire structure suffers.

I worked at United Rentals full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Benefits are inexpensive and very good. Day goes by quickly. Room for growth is there

    Cons

Constant responsibility, some days I forgot to go to the bathroom. Everything that went wrong in the branch was blamed on me. Competition between the branches is brutal and managers from other branches are rude and unhelpful. My branch went without a manager for months.

I worked at United Rentals full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    It was a lousy paycheck.

    Cons

The ISR Role is not a Sales Role. It's more of a Sales Assistant position

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent during the interview process

I have been working at United Rentals full-time

    Pros

Great sales Training, benefit packages, company vehicle, cell phone and lap top.

    Cons

Not a lot of positive reinforcement from management, have to be on call during your assigned week and were responsible for managing all service calls in the entire metro area 24/7. You could end up with 10 service calls by 8am on Saturday morning when they start at 3AM or you could end up with zero the entire week if you are lucky.

I have been working at United Rentals

    Pros

Pay can be good if you are in a good territory. Decent benefits. Company Truck

    Cons

Territory Based sales position. If there is work being done in your territory you could potentially do well. If there isn't, you probably won't. Nothing proprietary about what United does. You could have up to 20 competitors selling the exact same thing as you, typically at a much lower rate. Recent mergers and acquisitions have added challenges in the field for reps, often phasing out older tenured reps.

    Advice to Management

Listen to what your reps are saying is happening in their markets. Slow down and get back to the basics

I worked at United Rentals full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pay and benefits at UR are very good. Easy in sales to earn six figures and to expand your skill set. Branch level management (at least mine) cared about you as an employee. Specialized divisions means you always had a line that could benefit a customer.

    Cons

A overall sales outlook of burn and turn. Salesforce is used like a sledge hammer and just adds to busy work despite your performance. Beyond branch level is out of touch with local markets and ticking all the boxes is what matters.

    Advice to Management

Make Salesforce a tool, it is extremely useful, but became only used just so you didnt have to hear about it at the next meeting. Also you hired a sales rep for a reason, listen to what they are telling you, we face the market everyday.
