I worked at United Road Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Company had great benefits, good management that cares about the employee. Always kept us updated on the company's progress. Senior management (Leadership) was available to talk to any time - an "Open Door" policy. Made you feel part of the team.

    Pay rates are competitive.

    Cons

None - had to leave for personal reason, if not that, would still be there.

    Advice to Management

Keep the communication open as you have. Money is always a talking point and everyone wants more, so keep your employees in mind as the company continues to do well.

I worked at United Road Services full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Nice Office
    Company Provided Cell Phone
    Great Insurance On Day 1
    Coworkers

    Cons

    Endless Cold Calling
Bad Reputation that Dealers Know About
Dispatch Department Is Bad At Their Jobs
The Dealerships Usually Have An Easier Time Getting Loads Assigned to Trucks Than United Road Does
95% Of Orders Are Simply Listed On Central Dispatch
    No Advancement Opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to rise above the current set up. The sales position is basically just trying to get dealerships to let you post loads on Central Dispatch instead of them doing it themselves. URS ends up with a bad reputation because the dispatch department takes weeks to find a 3rd party truck to move vehicles.

Find a way to get more vehicles moved quicker via company trucks and URS will own the industry of moving used vehicles. Until then it is basically a Central Dispatch posting service.

I have been working at United Road Services (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Best trucking company I have ever worked for!!!! I have had several 1-3 year jobs but have been here more than 10 years now, not planning on leaving unless they kick me out!

    Cons

Many new employees quit without giving themselfs a chance. There is a learning curve but the rewards will be worth the wait!

    Advice to Management

Fully utilize all available company offered training for new employees to minimize turn over.

I have been working at United Road Services full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

United Road is a place where your ideas are heard and implemented, where leadership is accessible and relatable, and where hard work is noticed and rewarded. It is a company that, despite its continued growth, strives to maintain the best for its employees.

    Cons

Sometimes training can be light and inconsistent. There have been major effort in recent years to improve though

I have been working at United Road Services part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible schedule and hours. Clean and bright environment. Good equipment and tech support Trainer super helpful anytime.

    Cons

Starting list was little more then a phone book. Would be very helpful to have at least a few active accounts so you don't forget all you learned in training when you don't use it for weeks.

    Advice to Management

Team leads are helpful but could be a bit more hands on with newbies with rates and understanding seasons.

    Pros

Best culture around - fun, yet motivated to succeed! Upper Management does a great job letting us know how appreciated we really are!

    Cons

Electronic benefit/401k enrollment or employee website to view payroll and PTO would be nice to have.

I have been working at United Road Services full-time

    Pros

very flexible with schedules and time off. health insurance starts day one, company is growing and processes are being improved

    Cons

too many handles in your pot. sales people are responsible for everything, but between dispatchers and drivers so many things go wrong that you tend to lose most customers after a couple of months. so growing a reliable book of business takes years

I have been working at United Road Services full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

One of the best companies I have worked for great benefits they take care of their employees extremely well and have a great training program.

    Cons

Some of the cons are selling your soul to some customers trying to earn their business, all cold calling but if you are good at cold calling this is the job for you. Different sales technique that I am not used to but nothing really bad to say about the job just trying to adjust to style of selling.
