I worked at United States Steel full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits: Healthcare, 401k, Pension for those that started by/ before 2001.
    Flextime, vacation time.
The ability to keep company sponsored healthcare if you retire before 2017.

    Cons

Streamlining has caused high employee turnover out of fear of losing job and high employment termination.
2014-2015 was the year of restructuring and downsizing. 2016 is the year for sending U.S. jobs over seas as a cost savings. The fav' buzz phrase was "Carnegie Way". Employees contributed ideas that would save the company money. The ideas were a huge cost savings, but little did they know that their termination would also be a part of the initiative. The new buzz phrase is "non value added".

    Advice to Management

Value the loyalty, dedication and commitment of those that understand the vision and are willing to ride out the storm. People matter, families matter.

I have been working at United States Steel full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The pay and the benefits are good, and being a union job makes it more secure. Some Vance of advancement.

    Cons

Extreme heat and chemical exposure, long hours with forced overtime is very common. Rotating shifts make it hard to have a personal life.

    Advice to Management

Management doesn't take any employee suggestions and they should. We're the ones doing the jobs day in and day out, your unrelated college degree that got you the job doesn't mean you know how to do our jobs. Listen to your employees.

    Cons

Do not invest in their employees, little to no training for advancement. Very little capital investments leading to very old technology.

    Advice to Management

If you are implementing a plan start small, master one thing at a time before you move to the next.

    Pros

Good benefits, competitive salary even if slightly on the lower end, some locations are better to work than others.

    Cons

Continue to make the same mistakes. Too much of personnel shuffling.

    Advice to Management

First figure out what you want to do and where you want to go. Then take action. If you have a plan founded on sound principles, back it for a reasonable amount of time.
