    Advice to Management

If your going to restructure fire all the morons that required the restructuring in the first place! Oh no "we'll just keep all the same management and management style. Then wonder why we failed again!"

I have been working at United States Steel full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Have worked at USS for 20 years and the company has been a good place to work.

    Cons

There have been a lot of challenges to the business as we have tried to deal with the surge of dumped steel into this country.

    Advice to Management

The company is trying to compete with other facilities that are designed to produce low cost steel (see Big River). Over the past 10 years we have stuck to our inefficient facilities while investing billions on Oracle.

I have been working at United States Steel full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The pay is great and the benefits are wonderful plenty of opportunities to move laterally through the company

    Cons

Poor management!!! "Good old boys club"
All the work gets done on the backs of few.
All the crews morel are horrible in all of the departments.
    Very poor communications.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to watch and listen to the advice from the people that do the job day in and day out.
Most of them are there because they enjoy there job and would like to see the company grow and succeed.
Start thinking the decisions that need to be made from start to finish before implementing them.
Learn different ways to improve communication.
If all four crews are all pulling in the same direction you have better results than four separate directions.
Accountability with management and hourly needs to be greatly improved.
Micromanaging is great to increase productivity but you need to take the time to think it through from start to finish before implementation of the task at hand.
Way to many times decisions are made without the proper information given that results in way more work being created because of it.

I worked at United States Steel full-time

    Pros

The pay is better than you'll find at other nearby companies.

    Cons

Work schedules are horrible. Swing shifts that change weekly from day shift, afternoons and night shifts, between 8 and 16 hour shifts sometimes without notice. Usually only get a weekend off every 16 weeks and have to work most holidays, including Christmas. Dangerous environment also.

    Advice to Management

Work as a team with your employees. Quit acting like the Pinkertons are still standing on the roof of the building with their shotguns
