I worked at United Stationers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work was monotonous but ok, could get into a flow and make the time pass quicker. Some hardworking folk there, some lazy.

    Cons

Upper management was a good ol'boys club. They weren't concerned about efficiency or improvement, just meeting standards and making time to smoke cigars together outside.

High employee turnover. Hard work not rewarded.

    Advice to Management

When people offer methods of improvement that is a good thing to pay attention to.

    Pros

You will learn to sell many different products and with a lot of responsibility. Outside sales your will work on your own with input from management on how to grow territory.

    Cons

This company does not look as their associate as an asset just but just as a tool to progress the company line. The upper management does not take or seems to be interested in comments from the field and lower positions as how to make the company better, just the corporate bottom line. They infer all the time that your job is on the line.

    Advice to Management

Please listen to your employees you have one of the best sales forces and back up staff in the industry. Accountability is good, but understand that it is not always the employee that is at fault and they are other forces that lead to lower than expected productivity and their jobs should not be always on the line. Try to be more understanding that is the moral and right thing to do.
