    Pros

Attempting to be less bureaucratic and take more risks, great employee benefits

    Cons

Leadership is all white males. You have to choose between family and career.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at United Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Overall work schedules are flexible. Most people are good to work with. Some good younger talent if they can remove some of the dead weight in the way.

    Cons

Go-getters get shouldered with all of the work. Yearly reviews result in everyone getting the same review and similar raise. This is very de-motivating

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. There's a reason that employee surveys are below 50% favorability. Managers don't know how to be leaders and as a result there is no long-term vision

I have been working at United Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, company is starting to promote work/life balance, employee scholar program. Great technology, company is on the forefront of innovation in Aerospace.

    Cons

UTC has a very lean IT organization. The chances of moving up at this company are slim to none. You are better off leaving and coming back, rather than giving loyalty and expecting to move up. Not the right company if you want to go down the management track. Not the right company if you're technical, most IT is outsourced. Great company if you solely want to be a Project Manager.

    Advice to Management

Re-evaluate how you hire from within. Sometimes the talent pool you have is better than finding hot resources outside.

I worked at United Technologies as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

UTC is a great company for people who love working with varied technologies, and excellent senior managers willing to mentor make the company a great place to start out a career.

    Cons

This is a very large company that moves slowly. UTC is becoming much better at sharing technologies across the business units but it is still missing some key opportunities to grow and innovate. This will change in the next few years.

    Advice to Management

Continue to promote innovation as a method of growing the top line

I have been working at United Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

As a member of the corporation's central R&D organization, there are considerable opportunities to work on a variety of challenging technical problems related to business unit needs.

    Cons

Some employees perceive a gap between the staff and management. Leadership is working on addressing employee needs for improved communication.

I worked at United Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It's a (very) large company so there's a lot of opportunity to move around.
The people I worked with were technically outstanding.
You get to work with some pretty amazing technology.
You can work hard and advance your career or lay low. Your choice.

    Cons

Research and development moves very slowly (not surprising, considering the size of the organization, the product lifecycle and type of products.)
A lot of decision-making is based on internal politics.
You can spend lots of time and resources on bad ideas, especially if you are far from the front lines (aka the ultimate customers)

    Advice to Management

Research Center: pick a few areas and commit resources--if your level of commitment is the occasional minor project, then just don't hire in that area.

I have been working at United Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I have been working in the research center for 5 years. It is fairly flexible, knowledgeable colleagues to work with and OK compensation. Different things to work on.

    Cons

Too much of a show place, tour comes everyday and disrupt working. People skill is much more important than technical skill to be successful. Many time people get lots of money doing things really doesn't make sense, only because this guy has good exposure and can get money from upper management.
