I have been working at United Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The product, the locations, and the senior leadership

    Cons

    The size of the conglomerate

    Advice to Management

Please spend more time focusing on hiring mid-level managers who have the ability to lead/manage downwards, not just upwards.

I would also suggest that leaders place more emphasis on schedule respect. If you accept a meeting, go to it.

I have been working at United Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I just completed my two-year stint in the Operations Leadership Program with rotations at the Carrier and UTC Aerospace Systems businesses. AMAZING perspective on the workings of a multinational industrial manufacturer. UTC corporate invests significantly in the OLP program and it met every expectation that I had of it. OLP associates are truly set up for success.

    Cons

Some days/weeks/months are more fulfilling than others. From day one, you are coached to be "adaptable" and embrace change. However, even when you don't get exactly what you expected in a rotation, being able to compare/contrast it with other roles is a unique and important perspective. There is also a learning curve to UTC--you will need guidance to thrive in a "matrix" environment if that is new for you. Fortunately the support system is there, and the OLP sets you up for success.

    Advice to Management

Continue to build alignment with the BU focals and secure challenging but well-defined rotations. Maintain the 1-on-1 executive mentorship structure. Keep up the just-in-time training, not only for the content but also for the cohort to reconnect. Enhance and improve the training model for IT skills across the entire portfolio, all value streams, at all levels of the organization. An empowered and tech savvy workforce can unlock tremendous value.
