Reviews about "work life balance"
Return to all Reviews- Current Employee, more than 3 years★★★★★
Pros
Excellent employee health incenstives. Outstanding education funding called Employee Scholar Program (pay tuition in advance). Great Support System. Believes in and support work/life balance.
Cons
Buyout integration is a nightmare for everyone. Health insurance could be more competitive. Eliminate PayFlex HSA as I'm limited as to what I can purchase with MY OWN MONEY!

Pros
Good work-life balance. Start with 3-weeks of vacation. Decent learning opportunities in the workplace. Not a bad place to consider if you're in the first ~10 years of your career.
Cons
Pay is a little below industry average. Provides some of the worst healthcare packages out of all Fortune 100 companies. Limited opportunities for advancement unless you're willing to relocate across the country.

Pros
The Employee Scholar Program is very good. They will cover the expenses up front and will pay for one degree per level(1 Masters, 1 Bachelor, 1 Associates). They make sure you try to have a work-life balance; they are very flexible with the time you can come in the morning and leave as long as you do your minimum of 40 hrs per week for salary employees. There are many opportunities for career development in terms of employee network groups and networking events. Prepare yourself educationally and take advantage of the benefits that are available to you.
Cons
Due to the many benefits they provide, sometimes their pay may be less compared to other companies. Not all managers are used to recognize employees for a job well done even though they have recognition awards. You have to lookout for your own career development because otherwise you may stay in the same position for many years.

Pros
There are lots of opportunities for movement - many locations within a 30 minute driving area as well as many locations around the world if a move is preferred. You also do not get trapped in job situations for years on end, as movement is encouraged. Networking and being recognized is very easy due to the large but centralized company. Most employees have worked for and keep in touch with employees in other divisions, so there is no excuse to not have a reputation to work with.
Cons
Pay and benefits are very low compared to similar jobs in the surrounding area. The employee scholar program is the only unique benefit, but if you do not intend to take advantage, UTC can be frustrating to work for. Low compensation is even harder to grasp due to the poor work life balance offered. Hours and face time expectations are high and there is always a shortage of heads to complete necessary tasks (even in the good economic times).

Pros
Line management is supportive of Work/Life balance. There is a wide variety of jobs available and movement within the company is encouraged to widen your skill set. Job posting available to go anywhere UTC has openings. Programs supporting diversity and LGBT community. Competitive pay and benefits. Line management encourages career growth. Open to new ideas. Improved vacations. Great long term growth in the Pure Power product line.
Cons
Although the company leadership is very serious about ethics, requiring every employee to be well trained, some executives still don't get it. You see the news headlines. It hurts the trust factor and morale of all employees, customers and shareholders when ethical mistakes are made at high levels in the organization. On the plus side, corporate leadership realizes there is a underlying problem and is taking active measures.

Pros
Benefits not so bad. Employee Education Program is very good. Only 2 weeks vacation, but you can purchase additional time off. Opportunity for growth for mid career professionals. Good people. High level management is very professional and friendly. Work Life balance.
Cons
Resistance to change is high. Many employees are stuck in the past. Department managers or team leads could use some improvement/training. Runs inefficiently, and business processes need a lot of improvement. Not much consequences for those who fail to do their job.

Pros
Employee Scholarship Program is the only benefit
Cons
Very top heavy in management. Metrics is the bottom line, and they only see numbers in black and white. If sales is 9% below a plugged plan, then the company should lay off 9% of it's workforce. Impossible goals to meet, and very little work/life balance. To move up the ladder you are to be a yes man, and never disagree with leadership. Rather than fix problems they are hidden, and long term effects of bad processes and goals are left to future employees to deal with the mess. Short term goals are a priority that will most definitely sacrifice the long term goals of this company.

Pros
Good benefits, strong support system throughout the organization for leadership development and opportunities for career growth.
Cons
Continuous pressure to do more with less i.e. LEAN. There is constant restructuring and demartmental turnover. Days are long and work life balance is fare out of scope.

Great job if you are single and looking to get lots of experience and advance
RecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
You can do anything you want. There are always job opportunities available and you can easily switch functions.
Cons
Work/life balance is non-existent for most employees. Their values are a bit off (like most corporations).

Pros
Great benefits, company is starting to promote work/life balance, employee scholar program. Great technology, company is on the forefront of innovation in Aerospace.
Cons
UTC has a very lean IT organization. The chances of moving up at this company are slim to none. You are better off leaving and coming back, rather than giving loyalty and expecting to move up. Not the right company if you want to go down the management track. Not the right company if you're technical, most IT is outsourced. Great company if you solely want to be a Project Manager.
