    Negative Outlook

I worked at United World College full-time

    Pros

Most talented students from all over the world and the full socioeconomic spectrum, decent pay

    Cons

School leaders are mostly incompetent / lazy and out-of-touch with students / faculty, typical bureaucracy slows everything down, more profit-driven than anything else, decisions made are not always in the interest of students' well-being, bait-and-switch.

    Advice to Management

Get involved. Realize that the mental health situation is appalling. Find leaders who work hard, are willing to learn, have a clear vision and live by the mission. Also, all but one of the school leaders are male... mostly white. From the "English-speaking" countries. The students are so much more conscious, deliberate and informed than some of the adults that it's embarrassing.

    Pros

    Great exposure to multicultural environment

    Cons

Hectic work life. I have to quit as I had overworked and have IBS as a result. I am still on medication as a result

    Advice to Management

Ensure staff are not overworked and reasonable appraised.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at United World College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work life balance - great if you are looking for a stable job
Fixed increment - great if you are looking for minimum increment a year
    Diversed working environment

    Cons

    - No career progression
    - No growth for development
    - Minimal welfare and benefits for admin staff
    - Hard work and effort not appreciated
    - Staff are expected to do certain things (out of job scope) but not given proper training

    Advice to Management

Management should be more proactive and transparent. Appreciate staff for the effort they put in - not their skin color.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at United World College full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent school; non-profit. Teachers are treated very well, with high salaries, lots of holidays and professional development. Very rewarding.Fantastic ethos which produces well-rounded individual with strong moral compasses.

    Cons

Not for the faint of heart; what with PDs, yearly professional learning plan (i.e. setting of goals for improvement), and departmental Learning Improvement plans, the admin really eats into teaching, marking and curriculum development. Teachers often work 7 days a week (wirting reports, marking and dealing with dozens of emails) but you reap the rewards. Expectations to take part in school trips every year and run about 2 activities per season (there are 4 seasons).

    Advice to Management

No need to change things extra year - if it ain't broke...

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at United World College full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

School mission and ethos, wonderful students to work with, great colleagues, very dynamic community, great city to live in (Singapore), generous compensation package and school holidays, great travel opportunities (school trips + personal).

    Cons

Heavy workload, constant busy-ness, stress, work-life balance not easy, very large school with the problems that go with that. Demanding school for both students and staff who are often over-stretched.

    Advice to Management

Improve staff diversity to mirror the amazing student diversity. Broaden the still somewhat UK-centric senior leadership approach.

I worked at United World College full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great place for cultural immersion and interaction with very diverse nationalities. Excellent curriculum.

    Cons

Not the place to grow your career.

    Advice to Management

Have constructive appraisals - give feedback to subordinate on their performance, progression, areas done well and that which need improvement
