I worked at UnitedHealth Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    The staff and the staff.

    Cons

Management uses outdated practices. If you go to work to try an d make a difference and do a great job, please know that isn't what is recognized. You must be a a part of management's "wolf pack" in order to progress. Many folks have long-term tenure and have gotten very comfortable. And by all means, do not have an opinion contrary to management.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring folks as managers who cannot operate on a staff role. In addition, it's not the best idea to promote friends into management, at some point they will actually have to make good decisions and lead a team. Food for thought.

    Pros

The people I work with within the office

    Cons

Lower management / micro management technology / Health Insurance / salary is low

    Advice to Management

Trust your employees to work and not have them spend company time feeling out sheets of they have done every minute of the day. Have the employee report directly to the on they support, not a manager that has 30 admins under them and not in your office location.

Former Employee - Senior Quality Analyst (QA) in Carlsbad, CA

    Pros

    Bad leadership
    Worst managers
    High stress levels
Bad work environment .. Had to share one desk between two people
    Bad onsite offshore coordination
    Favoritism
    Lack of appreciation
    Worst managers and directors

    Cons

Favoritisms, politics, trust no one, managers bad mouthing you to others and then bad mouthing them to you , why??

    Advice to Management

Loose favoritism.. Treat everyone in the team the same. It's ok to let people work remotely. It's not a life or death scenario. Just because people are doing a good job does not mean you can give them a donkeys load of work and let other team members especially managers pets relax.

    Pros

Diversity of function, assignments. Customer Service, Prior Authorization, Pharmacy Technician, Pharmacists. There are also many opportunities for Specialty Team members. Great atmosphere and good training!

    Cons

Utilizes UHG offsite recruiters for all positions. This hinders the opportunity for top performers who have developed specific skills and relationships from always being considered for promotions.

    Advice to Management

Redesign the INTERNAL Hiring / promotion system to allow INTERNAL candidates to bypass the external recruitment services.

    Cons

Too much mandatory overtime, poor wage increases, unfair performance bonus plan, detached managers,

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to your lowest level employees. Directly talking with them will give you the best perspective for them. Happier employees produce more than disgruntled and ignored ones.
