I worked at UnitedHealth Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great Training Program. The Training staff really makes you feel like you are an important component to UHC/UHG success; You learn a great deal about Health Insurance and helping your clients on the phones. There are some really intelligent and caring people on the SME team and in management.

    Cons

Morale is low. Compensation for your work is low, even if you hold a degree upon entrance to the position. Raises are hard to come by and even though you are advised that it is easy to move up inside of the organization- this was not my experience, nor was it what I witnessed for others. More focus should be placed on rewarding employees for customer service and quality of information provided versus AHT or Handle Time. It appeared that those that did not "care" about the callers, were rewarded with how fast they could get callers off of the phone. Just be wary...

    Advice to Management

Pay your people better, so that they do not leave for higher paying opportunities. Metrics should not be number one- the clients should be. Get rid of the Glass ceiling.

    Pros

Good work life balance. Able to take time off whenever I needed it.

    Cons

Medical benefits are garbage! Mandatory 10 hours of OT per week most of the year.

    Advice to Management

Stop with the overtime and hire more people for the love of God!

I worked at UnitedHealth Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - The coaches are amazing, if you get lucky to be assigned the ones that know how to help
    - It's a cubicle job. Plug your headphones in, keep your head down, and meet your goals
    - If you meet your VPH goals, get bonuses and perks. If not, you better figure it out real quick!

    Cons

    - Trainer was inexperienced, felt unprepared when arrived on floor
    - Lots of meetings daily once on floor, micro-managed by software program (log in breaks, etc.)
    - Lots of stress when they tell you take your time but have to meet your goal
    - You either understand how to do this job or you don't, you'll quickly realize why the turnover is huge

    Advice to Management

Rotate coaches and ask for feedback, assign them to certain persons to develop better relationships so they excel faster

    Pros

    Easy job.
    Flexible schedule.
Pay is alright for a job that doesn't require a degree.
    Good vision and dental insurance

    Cons

    Health insurance is horrible
A lot of people who think they are "Chiefs"
OT is mandatory regardless of what's going on in your life

    Advice to Management

Systems should be upgraded. Management is ok but a lot of them are just there to make sure you meet your numbers.

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are many very good people with the company, management and below. Starting from entry level you absolutely can quickly be promoted. Including up to a fairly decent point without a degree.

    Cons

Recent reorganizations have removed a large amount of management, upper and lower. Many Managers, Supervisors, and Team Leaders nationally now have so many direct reports that they cannot effectively manage. These decisions came from the very top, and I find it very concerning as the company reached an all time high stock value this week.

    Advice to Management

Don't make sudden leadership changes across all lines of business over night with no foreshadowing, telling the employee's that it is due to various forecasts in the healthcare industry when the stock is on the up, at an all time high. It's tacky.

    Pros

Pays a living wage, decent benefits, full-time, various schedules, rarely ever work weekends (can volunteer when OT is available)

    Cons

It's insurance so you deal w/ people who are generally not happy, you have metrics you have to meet (not usually hard to do)
