    Pros

Huge, multi-unit organization stability and opportunities with eventual chance to work from home,

    Advice to Management

Should recognize that environment is socio-technical and demonstrate that the workforce is valued at every possible opportunity (and throughout the organization).

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Can't think of any other than "it's a job" if you can tolerate it.

    Cons

As an employee for a company acquired by UHG/Optum:
    1. Company is WAY too big, the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing. Decisions are monumental events, too many people have to be involved and too many meetings have to take place to get anything done in a reasonable amount of time.
    2. For a health care company the benefits are pathetic, completely company-oriented. Worst benefit package of any large org I've been employed by. Useful only if you don't need them.
    3. Salaries are too low. Annual increases for a “good” review don’t even cover the benefit increase costs. Bonuses are non-existent for anyone below director level while those for senior management are outrageous.
    4. No advancement opportunities.
    5. No concern for the employees of companies they acquire. Long term (10+ year) employees being let go with 2 weeks severance and escort out the door. All the talk about culture and values, not practiced nor apparent.

    Advice to Management

Come into the office every now and then and take a real look around. There's a reason why it's so gloomy and depressing.

    Pros

    Benefits and pay are ok.
Nice people to work with who care about what they are doing.
    Flexible work environment.

    Advice to Management

Senior managements needs to be aware of how the constant changes and re-organizations are impacting the health and morale of their work force.

    Pros

Market rate compensation, fantastic boss, fun but serious office culture, plenty of challenges to keep your work interesting, definitely embraces the most updated technology available in business

    Cons

It is a very large company with a lot of different business units that need to be integrated into the organization. There may not be as many career opportunities at your current location but those may be available in another area of the country.
