I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Leadership is very knowledgeable and cares about our ultimate customers, the insured. The knowledge they have is invaluable in making the company better. They are also concerned about work life balance.

    Cons

Salary inequality between internal and external job candidates with same skill sets. The discrepancy can be $20,000 a year, so negotiate for as much as possible and don't take the job unless they pay you a more favorable value that you're worth.

    Advice to Management

Work harder at salary equality based on skill sets, regardless if you are internal or external.

    Pros

    Compensation above the industry average.

    Cons

Treated more like a consultant than an employee. Some of the worse management in corporate america. Layoffs are based on something but know one seems to know.

    Advice to Management

    Start over with the basics.

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great environment to work in. Great schedule.

    Cons

Some leadership or upper management aren't professional. Just because there are a few bad apples doesn't make the rest bad.

    Advice to Management

hire those who started last year as contract at least. They have value and they value the company. That's what made this company so successful vs laying them off and having to rehire contracts and retrain which I'm sure may cost more in the long run.

    Pros

There's nothing pro about this company

    Cons

Promotions were handed to incompetent individuals. A lot of back-stabbing and brown nosing. Also (and I hate to say it) unhanded racism. The patients were numbers not people. Too much dishonestly within the company. False promises and falsified reviews. They just made up rules all willy-nilly.

    Advice to Management

Take care of those that has been there to make sure the company and the brand stays afloat. Treat your patient and your employees with care.

    Pros

Interesting work, good people as colleagues, nice building, gym, cafe

    Cons

Every second of your day is monitored, sometimes it seems the amount of time you're on the phone is more important than how you helped the caller.

    Pros

nice working environment in the Cypresss, Ca Office. Reasonable benefits/pay.

    Cons

In client service opertations handling small and large group issues, there is no real team spirit. The Supervisors have their favorites who can do no wrong. This call center, like others, is all about meeting metrics. If you dont meet average talk time, spend too much time on resolving issues after a call, spend too much time placing the member on hold, not getting quality scores of 94 or above, not getting customer surveys of 95 of above, not going to breaks and lunch as sceduled you will be written up. There is no guidance on how to improve your performace just a note that your are on corrective action. Supervisors are only there to critique performace yet they know nothing about what your do. The company preaches customer service but does not allow persons who are didicated to providing that service the time to do so. . If you want no less than five people looking over your shoulder- quality, corporate compliance, transactional compliance, adhearance and workforce compliance, and customer service survey compliance, all reviewing and second guessing you on what you do, stay away from U ited Healthcare.

    Advice to Management

Allow Front Line personnel the time to do their jobs
