I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time

    Pros

    1. I work in Optum Technology division in UHG. In Optum Technology division I work in Product Engineering group.
    2. I work in product development for extremely large health care product. There are multiple component from Computer assisted coding, natural language processing, integration with multiple healthcare payer and provider, HL7 interface, big data, Hadoop, data warehouse.
    3. Engineering practice and process is very good. Follow scaled agile framework. Learn many things in engineering process, agile SAFE and scrum methodology.
    4. Work life balance is good, work from home facility is there including monthly broadband reimbursement.
    5. Compensation is good and attractive in our group.

    Cons

    1. Extremely bad facility I have seen in any software development company.
    2. In Hyderabad, specially in Site 2, there are 7,000 employee and they accommodate everybody in a very small space.
    3. Large number of employee are in BPO in UHG (Like claims processing, operation people, medical coding people etc). They work in shift basis with US timing. For them it is fine with the provided facility, cab facility etc. But for software development it is worst. We work in normal shift, no parking, sitting place is very small, they accommodate almost 1000 software professional in a single floor, sitting place worst then BPO office, very less meeting room, no etiquette in open office culture, due to less number of meeting room most of the people have to take conference call from their desk, resulted so much noise, sometime it feels like I am sitting in a vegetable market. Whole floor is open, no minimum privacy is there between different teams. We have very less meeting room and again most of the time meeting rooms will be blocked by admin people for US counterpart visit. Resulted people manager/ managers need to do 1:1 in a open place in front of everybody. I am just sitting opposite to few Sr. Mangers, and I can here he/ she don't have meeting room to discuss some urgent issues like HR related problem with their direct reports. I can here what they are discussing/ salary related problem etc. Even we need to conduct interview from our sit as all the meeting rooms and interview rooms are blocked. Mangers need to discuss salary information with candidate in front of everybody.
        4. Lot of company has both software development and operation center. But they never try to accommodate both of team in a same location. All the software profession in Hyderabad should be moved to a new building with good facility , sitting arrangement and parking facility.
        5. Virtually there is no parking space in Hyderabad for 4 wheeler. In site 2 only 80-100 four wheeler parking space are there and that is also only provided for sr manager and directors. Several complain have been raised for multiple years, but facility people will give same excuse that we are sharing with many other company in the tech park. But all the other company in the same tech park don't have any parking space problem. If I go and check parking lot for other company, most of the time it will be have lot of space. This is due to they don't accommodate thousands of employee in a small space. They only accommodate few hundred employee in the same allotted space. I don't know why management in Hyderabad can't have budget for better/ more space for employee when they spent so much money in other activity.

    Advice to Management

All the software profession in Hyderabad should be moved to a new building with good facility , sitting arrangement and parking facility.

    2) No clear sense of future in the management in F&A business.
