I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

200,000+ employees makes it easier to move around within the company until you find something you like. For people still taking their actuary exams, there is an actuary program which rotates you into new positions every several years to give you experience in a variety of departments. Health conscious and family friendly company to work for.

    Cons

I was really enjoying the position I had in one of the actuary rotation roles, but my current position lacks challenge, and I feel my peers outside the program are gaining knowledge and skills at a quicker rate because their role demands it, where as mine does not.

    Advice to Management

Don't get so busy with your responsibilities that you neglect to ensure your employees are fully engaged. Additionally, pay them well. I've seen a former manager lose an A+ employee that took 1.5 years to replace because they were so busy with work they forget to compensate the employee at the level of work they were performing at.

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great environment to work in. Great schedule.

    Cons

Some leadership or upper management aren't professional. Just because there are a few bad apples doesn't make the rest bad.

    Advice to Management

hire those who started last year as contract at least. They have value and they value the company. That's what made this company so successful vs laying them off and having to rehire contracts and retrain which I'm sure may cost more in the long run.
