I worked at Universal Electronics (CA) full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good people to work with. The technology is fun and interesting.

    Cons

Company tends to micro manage and the pay increase is a no effort to show employee appreciatiaton and respect.

    Advice to Management

Give your employees some respect and show you care about their job in what they do. The employee will appreciate and work to better serve you and the company.

I worked at Universal Electronics (CA) full-time

    Pros

The pay was good if you lasted past the 90 period... I did not.

    Cons

As a call center rep, be prepared to get yelled at by people almost all day long. The biggest complaint I ever received was customers saying that techs that were supposed to come to their home to fix their cable or internet never showed up, or DID show up and slowly drove by their home without ever knocking or ringing the doorbell to see if the client was home, and therefore I had to escalate the order.

I have been working at Universal Electronics (CA) full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Plenty of opportunity for extremelly interesting work.

    Lots of great ideas.

    Free snacks.

Flexible work hours, maybe sometimes to much so.

    Cons

Vacation policy is terrible at best.

Time tracking is a waste of time and is not structured to produce anything meaningful.

Very hard environment to execute in, information is compartmentalized and spread across continents. Priorities are not well managed at all, and taking good projects from start to finish is nearly impossible.

Infrastructure including IT is widely regarded as a joke.

    Advice to Management

    Loose the time sheets.

Keep having big ideas, focus on things you can do well, and then actually do them in a manner where they are expected to succeed and not fail. Filter the junk.

Position employees for success, give them the tools needed to succeed, and keep the bar high.

    Pros

The company has excellent potential and has cornered the market in their niche. There are some very good people here.

    Cons

Management is so focused on not spending money on I.T. that the state of the I.T. infrastructure is very sad. Bring a good supply duct tape and bailing wire.

    Advice to Management

Stop replacing I.T. Director's every year. Maybe you should look at the root cause here ...

I worked at Universal Electronics (CA) part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Same schedule each week, coworkers are nice and big pay increase for full time.

    Cons

Supervisors will not hesitate to fire employees who do not meet their quota or even just because they can. Breaks are bad as in a 5 hr part time shift they only give you one 10 minute break. Management will also write you up for whatever they decide to enforce that week. Many good employees were let go becauae of this

    Advice to Management

Dont fire your full time agents and hire part timers because it is cheaper

I have been working at Universal Electronics (CA) full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Free snacks.
    Flexible timings.
Only first in and last out time is noticed. In between you can go anywhere for any amount of time.

    Cons

    Working with very old technology.
Managers and Director talks a lot about the company and new projects but really there is no new projects.
All of them are simply passing the time without doing anything.
No proper schedule or illogical schedule.
Very old projects with manual testing.
No documentation. No process. No quality. No training to new comers(either fresher or experienced).
You will be asked to prepare the design document after the project is completed!.QA team is really a joke.
Director and other managers are talking in local language, where others can not understand.
People who are working here for more than 10 years, trying to move out but could not get a job because of the work/old technology.
Salary hike is 4 to 5% whereas other companies are giving at 9-12%

    Advice to Management

Be work like a professional. Run this company like a MNC.
