    Cons

    management does not know how to talk to anyone or manage, they do not work with school or even real life issues, very secretive, and management actually enjoys firing people

    Advice to Management

    go to college and get some education on how to actually manage and motivate your employees

    Pros

    Easy to get hired in, super easy interview. Management appears glad to have you onboard. Plenty of parking. Location close to freeways.

    Cons

    After 90 days EITHER a 2.00 raise OR healthcare but not both. Some supervisors need to be retrained or released, they created a hostile environment, literally tipping around behind you to monitor your work, forcing employees to alert them when going to the restroom....there was an away button to click on the screen that was clicked also but you had to winpop (inbox) all supervisors that you we're leaving also, too much. No wonder there is a revolving door at this company. There was 1 good supervisor on staff, ONLY 1.

    Advice to Management

    Retrain the bad supervisors and have set rules in writing and stop making up random rules on the fly. If there are bad employees root them out and terminate them instead of applying random rules based on one bad employee. Hire quality employees in the first place and maybe you'll have some retention and not a revolving door. Increase the ten minute break to at least 15 minutes.

    Pros

    You can work with cool leading edge technology --RF, sensors.

    Cons

    Aggressive managers. Little respect for personal schedules. Poor documentation etc. Outsourcing. Legacy code. Many weekends and late-work BS.

    Advice to Management

    Respect your engineers. They are the source of your wealth.

    I worked at Universal Electronics (CA) (More than a year)

    Pros

    They work with some really intersting technologies here and the employees tend to be really hard work and smart. Medical benefits are very inexpensive.

    Cons

    There is a serious micromanagement problem here. They want talented, senior employees, but they treat them like newbies. This is a problem across the board in software/innovations. The VP who runs the group is so arrogant and he talks down to almost everyone on staff. He is universally reviled and people complain to HR, but everyone in a position of authority sort of just takes a "that's how he is" stance. The pay is well below industry standards and staff has really poor morale.

    Advice to Management

    Stop standing over your employees shoulders, you hire talented people, let them be talented. You are scaring away talented people.

    Pros

    There are some great people that work there. Outside of management.

    Cons

    The supervisors treat you like crap, the director just walks by you doesn’t even speak or make eye contact and treats you like your worthless. They talk to you like you are a child. Anytime there would be a escalation none of the sups. Would want to talk to the customer and tell you to figure it out. I don’t recommend this company to anyone

    Advice to Management

    Treat your employees with some respect.we are the ones that do the work and giving great customer service to your clients. The supervisors are not they need to learn respect

    You will be exposed to new ICs

    Cons

    Do they still have open offices the prevent focussing on the problem?
    Do they still have that intercom that interrupts flow every 15 minutes?
    Do they still disregard family life? Worship CES?
    Have they lost half their stock value?

    Pros

    New office so desks and chairs are still clean.

    Cons

    1. No means of work/life balance
       A) HQ development team not understanding timezone differences. sometimes people calling at 1 or 2AM.
       B) Management asking to have a meeting at 2AM / 3AM in the morning & not attending to it.
       C) too dependent on one person. Once involved in 8 deals all running in parallel.
       D) even after resignation, constantly calling for help. Management not thinking this is a shame
            Once or twice, is understandable but almost everyday is not understandable.
            Side effect of counting too much on one person, but have no plans of increasing because of laws.

    2. Corporate culture
       A) scream more to get more (complain a lot for a raise)
       B) too many resignations (due to lack of management and harassment)
       C) not a manufacturer, but a solutions provider. no or little knowledge of manufacturing.
       D) Constantly preaching value (consulting), but in the end follow customer needs.

    3. Threatens to fire for arrogation of authority but Sales controlling the Application engineers.
        Does not realize that is also considered an arrogation of authority.

    Advice to Management

    1. Do not hire people with their background experience, but with their potential to dedicate themselves in an environment where a person is constantly screaming.
    2. Strongly recommend to show candidates reality instead of ideal image. Nobody is interested in your utopia
    3. Lead and show value before ordering others to show value. Should prepare an ideal role model up front.
    4. Highly recommend to stop making up selfish reasons to why people resigned.

    Pros

    In India office, Work life balance is good. Free snacks. 25 days paid vacation. I can not say anything else.

    Cons

    Working with old technology. No training to new comers. The big joke is the design of the project is still done in Microsoft Excel. Project scheduling is the worst. You have to deliver within one week. Salary is at low bottom compared to other companies. People who want to learn will not join/stay in this company.

    Advice to Management

    Bring some new projects with new technologies. Give training to new employee. Project scheduling should be proper.

    I worked at Universal Electronics (CA) part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Same schedule each week, coworkers are nice and big pay increase for full time.

    Cons

    Supervisors will not hesitate to fire employees who do not meet their quota or even just because they can. Breaks are bad as in a 5 hr part time shift they only give you one 10 minute break. Management will also write you up for whatever they decide to enforce that week. Many good employees were let go becauae of this

    Advice to Management

    Dont fire your full time agents and hire part timers because it is cheaper

    Pros

    The company has excellent potential and has cornered the market in their niche. There are some very good people here.

    Cons

    Management is so focused on not spending money on I.T. that the state of the I.T. infrastructure is very sad. Bring a good supply duct tape and bailing wire.

    Advice to Management

    Stop replacing I.T. Director's every year. Maybe you should look at the root cause here ...
