I have been working at Universal Health Services part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Potential for tuition assistance and progressive learning opportunities...IF you have regular access to a computer.

    Cons

Extremely low pay, critically understaffed, so much that positions are overlapping in several areas, making everyone overwhelmed and exhaustively overworked. Meal times are far and few between.... 10-15 minute break...ha, good luck! Opportunity to convert from Per Diem to Part-Time or better, fat chance! Almost seems like they push it as far as they can to avoid paying any benefits. This business would benefit greatly from a union presence, nobody is looking out for the worker bee!! If you're a puppet type personality, this is the place for you. If looking for growth, don't waste your time.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees more, commensurate with the level of work they're doing. If you're crossing two, three and four different roles, the employee should be paid those wage rates when doing those functions. Make cross training, and career growth opportunity more accessible to those that don't see the computer everyday. Highly recommend leadership be sent to interpersonal skills training. There's more to being a leader than just having the word manager in your title.

    Pros

Psychiatric physicians are wonderful! Large variety of psychiatric issues.

    Cons

Acuity ratio too high for staff, to provide quality care.

    Advice to Management

    Appreciate your long term employees

I worked at Universal Health Services (More than a year)

    Pros

UHS pays Very competitive salaries. Regional personnel operate with a great deal of autonomy.
(See 'Cons' below for the caveat to this autonomy.) Senior management stability and longevity with UHS very strong 'pro'.

    Cons

Regional personnel are often very isolated from corporate decision makers.
Quarterly pressure to keep stock price up is prevalent in many decisions and ripple through the entire company..

    Advice to Management

Refional personnel that work remotely need better understanding of corporate decision making process. Particularly when that process changes over time.

    Pros

If you like working with kids then this is the job for you. It is mentally and physically exhausting but truly a great experience to make a difference in these kids lives. Plus, my co-workers are a second family.

    Cons

The management is horrible. There is a new Chief Nursing Officer that does nothing but delegate to everyone else and micromanage. This certainly is not the Willow Way or way to get the respect of your employees. Severely short staffed, nurses are over worked.

    Advice to Management

Raise salaries for nursing, recruit more, find a new Chief nursing officer. Appreciate your employees and let them know you appreciate them. It really goes a long way. Offer more incentives like other local hospitals.

    Pros

Strong professional relationships within your team.

    Cons

extremely high stress environment, both due to patient acuity and management emphasis on multiple complicated procedures--detailed in 6 to 12 page long documents--for steps that must be completed while dealing with high acuity patients. Constant fear, anxiety, and stress, as it is not possible to comply with all regulations in the working environment.

    Advice to Management

The culture of constant fear and anxiety complicate the already overwhelming tasks at work. so glad I am no longer there.

I worked at Universal Health Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Rewarding work, ability to help people every day in some way, great coworkers. Incentive pay if you pick up shifts.

    Cons

The facility is not up to standards. The facility is dirty and understaffed, needs to be completely remodeled and revamped. Programming needs to be consistent and needs to be followed, need more activities and recreation for therapeutic purpose. Also needs some one on one therapy with patients as there is pretty much only group therapy.

    Advice to Management

Corporate needs to listen to management of facilities... put money into investing in the facility to improve it.
