I worked at Universal Health Services part-time

    Pros

Friendly staff Most upper management cares about staff. Nursing supervisors are almost always willing to help. Many long term RN staff in critical care areas.

    Cons

Patient staff ratios not always ideal. Develop resource pool of nurses to float to areas of need.
Management worry about "scores" more than whats best for safe patient care.
Never see Director of Nursing rounding on floors.
Lack of education opportunities or required education other than computer generated annual competencies.

    Advice to Management

Provide management training to clinical leaders and charge nurses. We are not trained in management. Difficult to find enough RN's to cover patients. Hire more CNA's and provide additional training to them so they can deliver good direct care so RN can manage larger patient load safely. Patients NEED direct care to feel cared about, valued and this shortens stay. Better outcomes, safety and better scores.

    Pros

The facility provides good working conditions and the employees are dedicated to the welfare of their patients. The CEO is quite involved in the day to day operations of the facility providing guidance and oversight.

    Cons

They don't have a mature IT system. many documents have to be completed by hand and there are no digital copies kept for these documents.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work.

I have been working at Universal Health Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Consistent, high work flow, co workers are helpful and friendly for the most part, food on site, vacation start at 12 days per year

    Cons

strict work life balance, aka NO WORK LIFE BALANCE. If you want to work from home for inclement weather you have to take a half a vacation day, very conservative, tie and shirt for all employees, strict promotions, if you get promoted from within they will not pay as high as if you were an external candidate

I worked at Universal Health Services as an intern

    Pros

Great environment, friendly people. Everyone was willing to help other people. Most people seemed to know what they were doing.

    Cons

There seemed to be a little disorganization. Sometimes people would not be on the same page and it would slow down project teams.

    Advice to Management

Keep pushing hard to finish projects. Maybe try a different method of organizing them. Current way seems a bit tedious

I worked at Universal Health Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

UHS has a developed plan for career path and their leadership tends to be very accessible and open to the conversation. They are a large organization with many opportunities they make available for internal and external candidates.

    Cons

With their corporate structure located away from the hospitals and clinical teams it can be difficult to stay in touch with needs and issues. This can be challenging navigating local and corporate politics.

    Advice to Management

Develop functional communication and escalation channels for all levels of employees both local and corporate.

    Pros

Projects are interesting and the team I work on is very close knit.

    Cons

There is not many cons to working here, but personally I would have to say the speed of corporate development projects can be slow sometimes.

    Advice to Management

My advice to management would be to keep doing what they are doing. I feel they have a very good grasp on their tasks.
