    Pros

Strong professional relationships within your team.

    Cons

extremely high stress environment, both due to patient acuity and management emphasis on multiple complicated procedures--detailed in 6 to 12 page long documents--for steps that must be completed while dealing with high acuity patients. Constant fear, anxiety, and stress, as it is not possible to comply with all regulations in the working environment.

    Advice to Management

The culture of constant fear and anxiety complicate the already overwhelming tasks at work. so glad I am no longer there.

I worked at Universal Health Services part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

If you work PRN you get paid $15/hr, and they feed you during your shift (technically their feeding the residents) but since you're baby sitting them you get to eat for free too.

    Cons

Everything!!! The residents are so spoiled by certain staff by the time you come on your shift there are so many expectations. For instance the morning shift probably spent the day spoiling the residents and letting them do whatever and letting them eat whatever and now that it's swing shift they expect you to do the same. If you don't, you better believe you're going to have a sh** show.

    Advice to Management

    Try working the floor!

I worked at Universal Health Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Rewarding work, ability to help people every day in some way, great coworkers. Incentive pay if you pick up shifts.

    Cons

The facility is not up to standards. The facility is dirty and understaffed, needs to be completely remodeled and revamped. Programming needs to be consistent and needs to be followed, need more activities and recreation for therapeutic purpose. Also needs some one on one therapy with patients as there is pretty much only group therapy.

    Advice to Management

Corporate needs to listen to management of facilities... put money into investing in the facility to improve it.

I have been working at Universal Health Services full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Helping others in need. Working on the residential unit allows us to really get to know the patients. Cheap meals for staff, and get to eat with patients.

    Cons

Company staffs depending on patient load. Which puts staff in danger at times, and the patients. The pt to staff ratio is 1 to 5, but I usually get as many as ten pt's before I get another staff member.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your people's safety concerns.

    Pros

Great experience; great people overall; love working with the patients and learning more about hospital operations.

    Cons

No potential for career advancement or financial incentive. No shift differential given at some locations for nights/weekends. There is a high turn-over.

    Advice to Management

Provide a way for licensed professionals to grow with the company; create more financial incentives, especially for Licensed Mental Health Workers; working on retention and developing current staff would create a more stable group of employees and environment.

I have been working at Universal Health Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I am lucky enough to say that I truly love what I do. I have great co-workers and a great nurse manager who really cares about her unit.

    Cons

The biggest issue I have is how outdated the facility is. We still use paper charting which is an absolute headache.

There is very little room for advancement.

Pay is not competitive for the location I work in.

    Advice to Management

Invest in electronic charting. It would save money in the long run and would also alleviate the work load for the nurses.
