I worked at Universal Recycling Technologies (More than a year)

    Pros

A great team of people that pull together to provide a recycling service that truly improves the environment. URT works to stay on the cutting edge of electronics recycling. Challenging work in a rewarding industry.

    Cons

Nothing bad to share about the company.

    Advice to Management

Continue to develop employees. Their ideas, actions, and drive will keep the company on the cutting edge.

I worked at Universal Recycling Technologies full-time

    Pros

you get a paycheck and get breath in dust and chemicals

    Cons

URT has a dirty work environment and it is very had to breath with all the dust. Supervisor lies saying they will hire you in after three months but they just cut all the temps after that time. Don't waste your time with this "company".

    Advice to Management

    URT sucks

    Universal Recycling Technologies Response

    Aug 7, 2017 – Director, HR

URT is a manufacturing environment and, as such, dust can be generated during the day-to-day operations. All employees are provided with the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) for their... More

I worked at Universal Recycling Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fair amount of autonomy on the job. Some individuals are good workers and people.

    Cons

Lack of good communication and vision. One of the worst companies I have worked for in terms of teamwork. Very reactive and almost no longer term planning. Continues to not make money for a number of years despite better sales. Turn over is extremely high and moral is extremely low due to lack of praise and being overworked. Feedback isn't given often enough and when it is, almost always negative and what should have been done.

While it is a tougher industry to make money, they still operate too much like a small company with no vision beyond the next few months, to really have a good plan to ultimately make money and take more market share. Bottom line is this company will continue to struggle to make money even in good times, and people will continue be overworked and will jump ship once they realize this company is not meant for long term success.

    Advice to Management

    More communication, feedback, praise needed.

    Universal Recycling Technologies Response

    Aug 7, 2017 – President

Since its beginning, URT’s focus has been to do what is right for its people and the environment. Over the last 5 years, many great things have happened:
    - Changes in both mid- and senior level... More

I have been working at Universal Recycling Technologies full-time

    Pros

The industry will only grow and there are a few bright and dedicated people added to the company in the past year or so. If you are looking to work here you need to wait until they have some good leadership that stays in place.

    Cons

The senior leadership team has a revolving door. The only two constants are the President and the HR manager. Put 2 and 2 together. We can only hope a couple of the newer managers stay with the company. They have literally hired, fired, and laid off hundreds of people in the past few years at all levels. It feels like URT is late to the game in all of the sales areas they want to grow in. Those ships have sailed and URT didn't have any tickets. Company has plenty of service issues and is struggling to maintain any regular business.

    Advice to Management

Most of the veteran employees have bad attitudes. People work against each other on everything. Employees are not valued or trusted to do their jobs and they don't trust each other. The direction changes on a regular basis on every level in every department.

I have been working at Universal Recycling Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company has potential but is constantly replacing management and has incompetent people that are more concerned with looking out for themselves - no team efforts here.

    Cons

Lack of vision by management. No follow-thru once they decide on a policy/plan.

    Advice to Management

Change the culture. Management needs to embrace new policies that will keep people (turnover at this company is HIGH).

I have been working at Universal Recycling Technologies full-time

    Pros

The company has a good idea

    Cons

Too bad management is running it into the ground. Supervisors don't know what they are doing or how to do the job, so they cannot effectively manage. The company expects too much out of employees. Will have you do several different jobs, with unreasonable expectations. Don't appreciate employees hard work at all. No raises at all in more than a year for anyone. Who wants to stay at a company where you don't get your yearly performance review and raise as they tell you when they hire you, but upper management keeps getting raises

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, they do the job, they are your best source of information. How about some raises, you can't expect employees to work for a whole year plus without a raise. Treat your employees with respect. Have supervisors that have done the job and know what should be expected.

    Pros

Working with clients and several talented colleagues.

    Cons

Constant turnover. Inconsistent benefits. Don't value performance. Too many layers to be efficient.

    Advice to Management

Listen & act on feedback. If you can't take the heat, get out.
