I have been working at Universal Technical Institute full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

People, Purpose, Profit really means something here. I've seen the company extend caring and grace to people when they are going through difficult times. Students and employees.

    Cons

Communication is very poor. We spend weeks before and after every Board meeting and budget cycle to find out if there is going to be another RIF.

    Advice to Management

Leadership needs to have more direct talks with individual departments and campuses. Not just blind reassurance, but meaningful acknowledgment of our struggles and what is being done.

    Pros

Loved the students. After 5 years you get 3 weeks of vacation and they close on holidays

    Cons

Insurance USED to be great its now HORRIBLE!! I worked at UTI for about 7 years you will only see about a .30 cent to .45 cent raise a year if your lucky. So don't count on getting a raise if you work here. There is also a lot of trash talk behind your back. DON'T trust anyone. You will get rolled in no time. This company is hurting and they just had big layoffs. But the Campus President will tell you not to worry that things are looking up HAHA.. Yeah right!!!

    Advice to Management

UTI used to be a great place to work and now it's not. You need to make UTI Great Again!!! Because right now its rolling downhill fast. When employees were happy you can see it and feel it. Now when you walk into UTI you can tell there is a lot of stress and unhappiness. It really sucks. I miss the old UTI.. Please bring back the UTI we all loved!!! Get rid of KIM!!!!

    Pros

To get some basic experience and then move on to organizations that truly want to out the student first over incoming revenue.

    Cons

Totally outrageous interest on loans offered to prospective students. Too many students are suffering trying trying to repay loans, barely satisfying the interest charges.

    Advice to Management

Look to MMI for best practices.

    Pros

Great people, great core values, and excellent mission to change the lives of the students. Really excited to see some changes at the top recently.

    Cons

Reductions in force fairly often, and high regulation on the industry, although that may change with the new presidential admistration coming in.

    Advice to Management

Keep the focus on changing students' lives for the better.

    Pros

Excellent Pay, Great Team. Good company to make a career with.

    Cons

Not many. As with any big company there is allot of bureaucracy, but overall it was a good company to work for.

    Advice to Management

    Promote more from within.

    Pros

    Easy
If you know the supervisor on a personal level you can be late all you want

    Cons

No growth opportunities, nepotism, SMART is extremely outdated and VERY inefficient. Outdated and inefficient business practices, change is good. When asked why things are done a certain way, same response, "that's the way it's always been done". Poor moral. TONS OF GOSSIP, RIF layoffs are a pattern (if it keeps happening, fix it). Metric based on how many questions you ask? Employees are never even showed so called metrics. Supervisors don't even know what they are doing, no training for new employees, expected to learn everything as you go and if you make a mistake because of your lack of training and lack of a competent supervisor, forget about it.

    Advice to Management

Get new management, some of the people you have in charge have 0 idea what they are doing. time in the position does not mean ppl are competent

I worked at Universal Technical Institute (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Campus staff is committed and loves what they do. People genuinely care about the students and the company's purpose to change lives through education.

    Cons

Government regulations have hurt the company, and management has not made the necessary adjustments to their strategy. The cost of training is too expensive for many students also. Many layoffs.

    Advice to Management

The old way of doing things that made UTI and MMI a great success no longer works. Things have changed and the way that students are enrolled and taught need to change too.
