I worked at UniversalPegasus International full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Gained experience in many different departments. Met and worked with some awesome people that were both talented in their fields and enjoyable to work with.

    Cons

Management either lies to your face or is really out of touch/uninformed with employees and projects. Obvious favoritism with laced with heavy office politics.

    Advice to Management

Bring in outside management for at least an evaluation and outside perspective/ recommendation.

    Pros

Great company to work for. The leadership is top notch. Enjoyed taking part in all of the company events.

    Cons

No real downside to working at UniversalPegasus International, just the industry cutbacks and lay offs.

    Pros

Good people in my group, decent base pay, that is about it.

    Cons

Nose dive in benefits over last 3 years, no training whatsoever, groups do not work well together, ridiculous safety emails that have nothing to do with the industry and contributes nothing to safety culture, "do not use electric near bathtub" type of stupidity.

Business development people are ineffective and seem to rely on others to do their work. Team effort is great, responsibility needs to reside with that group. Too many on staff and too many are ineffective. If we are not getting work, why are the business managers not being let go???

In the last two years, if your over 55 you had better have your resume current. Many senior and experienced personnel "retired". Talk about a brain drain and is not exactly motivating to your staff. Seems to be some age discrimination here.

Cronism. If you don't belong to the club your an outsider and only a number.

Benefits have been reduced dramatically, no bonus, no yearly increase this year apparently. Of course there is no communication in detail about any of this. Or with general company operations for that matter.

    Advice to Management

Value your people above the bottom line, invest in them regardless of the circumstances.

Maybe fire those who are charged with getting work rather than those who execute it if your always complaining about the lack of work? Just a thought...Stop burdening your other groups with their responsibility.

I worked at UniversalPegasus International full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people to work with. The benefits were good until the industry went south. The pay scale was very good as well. Being acquired opened opportunities.

    Cons

The downturn in the industry made employment extremely shaky for everyone. The benefits were cut just before the layoffs began.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time speaking with those that work in the various departments and strive to keep younger talent. Things will get better and you'll need people when that happens.

    Pros

The pay was great and annual pay raises are two good things, Also, the deli on the first floor was good, but a little pricey.

    Cons

Instead of laying off equally at all positions, it seems like more of the lower level people are laid off and higher ups are kept. Eventually it will be managers doing all the work.

Team leads / managers are always in meetings, and when work does come down timelines are many times unrealistic and managers are hard to find.

I worked at UniversalPegasus International (Less than a year)

    Pros

Quick way to gather experience. Free training - if you can get it.

    Cons

Expensive health care, no 401K match, reduced PTO benefits, forced "family" environment. The company is always about quality and ethics, Two things they don't have and definitely won't teach. Because of recent manipulations they now have untrained, unaware, and uncaring people in management. The shining stars are fading and mentors retiring. A Business Development Dept that for some reason still has a job but laying off actual contributing people.

    Advice to Management

A company isn't 4 walls and some desks. It's the people that make it happen. Treat them like YOU would like to be treated, and not some number on a page. See what they actually add to the company and not just a paycheck.

    Pros

Flexible schedule and good people. You have a lot of opportunity to learn because you work on all phases and aspects of projects.

    Cons

Unorganized, sometimes unreasonable deadlines. Having engineering and design teams as separate entities along with flexible hours leads to a lot of time inefficiencies on projects

I worked at UniversalPegasus International full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - The best medical benefits I've ever received before budget cuts and staff "reductions"
    - Diversity initiative until you're the only woman or minority in the room

    Cons

Management or the "higher-ups" lack the business acumen and imagination to seek out other industries to diversify their offerings creating a revolving door of third-party investors who come-in and change everything and cause lay-offs. No transparency between the staff and management; ridicules PTO accumulation; no performance review; managers too blind to see incompetent Project Managers...happy I'm gone.

    Advice to Management

No advice to management, but a warning to potential employees. The company is filled with people who scrutinize your every mistake just to have a lame reason to lay you off when things get tough. Watch your back and keep your resume out there.

I have been working at UniversalPegasus International full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Have been here just over 2 years and have been promoted twice. UPI values people's skills and contributions over legacy politics. Are part of Huntington Ingalls now and are very cash positive and growth focused.
Good environment to work in and diversified business (pipelines, facilities, topsides, subsea, field services, construction management). I have gotten exposure to more types of projects in 2.5 years than I had in 10 prior to coming here.

    Cons

Has cyclical business like other engineering and construction firms. Had a layoff a few months ago when a couple of client projects were cancelled. In order to avoid more layoffs, there was a temporary vacation cut. Good for those whose jobs were saved, bad for those that were safe anyway.

    Advice to Management

I love working here and hope that we continue to set the company up for growth, diversification, and continue to provide opportunities to our rising stars.
