I worked at Université Laval full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great sports facilities, easy to commute on north shore, relaxed but innovative environment, great for young researchers trying to bring up families, especially as world class daycare is provided by the state. Multi-lingual surroundings in Sainte Foy, very multi-cultural and dynamic, with excellent investment.

    Cons

If living on the south shore, the commute is terrible - only one bridge effectively. Winters in Quebec City are long and very cold, can be hard if skiing is not your thing. Salaries are on the lower end, and research groups often shunned by international community for more English-speaking Montreal-based centers.

    Advice to Management

Improve links to English-speaking communities, and with US researchers

I have been working at Université Laval full-time

    Pros

    Great city to live/study in
    A lot of independence research-wise
Great experience with administrations at all levels

    Cons

Some research infrastructures are out of date
Your experience as a PhD researcher will mostly depend on your lab/advisor, with minimal interference from the University.
There's a lack of effort from the University to present their PhD students with non-academia alternatives.
