I have been working at Université de Genève part-time

    Pros

Good life/work balance, still can benefit from student discounts or offers from the University

    Cons

Considered only 70% of employment so the salary, even though more than adequate, much less than the mean Swiss salary, taking into account the high cost of living

    Doesn't Recommend

I have been working at Université de Genève part-time

    Pros

Salary is good. But you wouldn't want to do a PhD for a salary.

    Cons

At least at the department of computer science:

    - One might have a false impression that since it is a Swiss institution, anyway, it shouldn't be worse than a certain level, e.g., as in comparison with epfl. However, and very surprisingly, the academic quality is awful. This can be seen by a simple look at their publication records.
    - Very abusive system for the PhD students. For example in teaching, all the load is on the assistants and not the professors.
    - Basically, no academic collaboration with the rest of the world. No industry connection either.
    - Everything in the hand of the PhD supervisor. You should be extremely lucky to have a good one.
    - Notoriously bad building facilities.

    Advice to Management

The only group that is really benefitting here is the professors. Every other group, the PhD students, the undergrads, the funding bodies, they are all in bad shape.
