I have been working at University Hospitals of Cleveland part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to work! Managers/supervisors are very supportive and encourage growth from within the department and organization as a whole. This truly is a teaching hospital.

    Cons

Food options not very impressive outside of the main campus, and even the selections can become limited at the main campus during evening/night shift and on the weekends

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work in supporting your employees and encouraging growth and education. Better cafeteria selections for evening and weekend shifts and overall at the satellite locations and community hospitals.

I have been working at University Hospitals of Cleveland full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

UH mission and excellent team environment make UH a great and fulfilling place to work. There is ample opportunity to move up the ranks.

    Cons

Resource availability in terms of capital and personnel is sometimes limiting. Pressures of changing health care market and payment systems makes it tough to stay motivated.

    Pros

UH has some nice benefits. The pay is okay for unlicensed folks. The PTO is awesome. You get 8 hours for every 80 worked. The schedules are flexible, depending on your nursing manager, and theres TONS of opportunities for upward mobility. The pay for educational advancements, work around your educational and family schedule, and even encourage you to go to school. In following the nursing career pathway, youll be offered a job as an RN guarenteed (so long as youre not a dirtbag) The pension is okay, and the 404(b) isnt terrible either. The management cares about its employees and are all about allowing you your space to spread your wings.

    Cons

They almost get too pushy about school. Which I guess isnt quite a bad thing, but I feel like Im working with my ma back when I was in high school. They (the RNs you work with) are sometimes your teachers...and will hunt you down to quiz you, or drag you away from your duties to see something that was discussed in class that day. That gets a little annoying. The other bad thing is the insurance. It kinda sucks. Its expensive, and the HSA doesnt pay for squat. The PPO plan is okay, if youre okay, with coughing up $300 per pay if you have a family if its just you, its actually really affordable. The parking at the Case campus is an absolute nightmare. Its too expensive, people dont follow the rules, and theres zero enforcement. Although in UH's defense they dont run the garages, University Circle does...but still...The other obnoxious thing is that theres always some type of "party"...Either its someones birthday, or someone got promoted, or took a new job, or had a baby, or is getting married, or whatever. They have us bring stuff in like a potluck seriously like every other week. The other annoying part is holidays. You HAVE to work your assigned holidays. There is no trading, no PTO (especially at Christmas) and the deal is if you work Thanksgivong, you get Christmas Day and New Years day off. If youre off Thanksgiving, you work Christmas Eve, and and New Years Eve...but it is holiday pay (time and a half plus $5 an hour incentive)

    Advice to Management

Increase the options for tuition assistance to include certificate programs not just degrees. Allow shift trades for holidays, and improve the health insurance program.

    Pros

I've tried to fill out this thing 4 times now. Not user friendly. Good company, good benefits

    Cons

Doesn't pay as much as clinic, nor are some of the managers fair or pay fairly. Understaffed, over 1000 jobs available to hire

I have been working at University Hospitals of Cleveland full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pto hours a good, some coworkers, break time, and learning new things. I enjoy helping people and working for a well known hospital.

    Cons

Poor management leaders who don't know how to communicate. It is not good to expect something from people and you don't ask for it. Also the way some things such as are delivered could be way better.

    Advice to Management

There should be a communication class offered to any leaders or management. Dealing with many different people may be hard but we shouldn't suffer due to their inability to communicate.

A company is as good as its management. Don't lose great employees due to this problem that can be solved.

I worked at University Hospitals of Cleveland (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Professional, organized, allowed you to be flexible with scheduling of classes. Good team of educators to work with.

    Cons

Limited number of patients attending classes. Inconsistent with having patients attend all four classes.

    Advice to Management

Advertise to more Primary Physician Groups and Internal Medicine Groups so all patients can have access to much needed education as they manage their Diabetes for life.
