Pros
Good health insurance with low copays. 19 days of vacation. Unionized position so long as not in management. Learned a lot about social service and various resources for the LES community. Good work life balance, if you work late then you can come in later the next day or take the hours back.
Cons
High turnover in management and front line staff. Coworkers not as motivated. Management focuses on numbers rather than quality.
Advice to Management
Focus on the needs of families served. Advocate to pay front line staff higher wages which will help decrease turnover. Communicate with staff in more encouraging tones rather than punitive.

Pros
Organization doing some very important work. Some extremely hardworking people who take on a million jobs at once.
Cons
- Very high turnover in Development Department - Strategically rudderless management that provides little professional development. - Sense of always rushing. Everything is the most important! - Little understanding of how marketing should feed into revenue. - Very political environment. - Expectation that you take on every job (it's a nonprofit - and that's part of environment - but US/The Door/BSA makes CYA... tasks a priority)

Pros
I have worked in multiple departments including housing and older adults. In many departments there are really great, passionate and supportive staff.
Cons
In some departments there is high turnover and at times low morale and bad attitudes from upper management.
Advice to Management
Listen to your employees about bad leadership

Pros
Big social services nonprofit. They do a LOT and the work they do is high-quality, comprehensive, and concentrated on solving some of the most important problems in NYC. Great health care. Pretty bad pay.
Cons
Low pay. High turnover. While the work they do is good, US can move like molasses when it comes to making changes in the way they operate.
