I worked at University Settlement part-time for more than a year

    Pros

I have worked in multiple departments including housing and older adults. In many departments there are really great, passionate and supportive staff.

    Cons

In some departments there is high turnover and at times low morale and bad attitudes from upper management.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees about bad leadership

I worked at University Settlement full-time for more than a year

    Pros

None- everything comes at a price and all the "employee perks" are only in place so the agency has the appearance of treating their staff well

    Cons

As in previous reviews, upper management is unprofessional; and that's is putting it very kindly. There is an absolute lack of diversity in upper management and operations are conducted based on what the leadership's mood is that day and their personal agenda. Staff appears to be valued on a superficial level, but with time, it is evident that there is no respect afforded to anyone but the ones at the very top, and... they are eager to retaliate against anyone who goes against their agenda.

    Advice to Management

None - any feedback/requests for things to be done differently, including treating staff in a respectful manner, falls on completely deaf ears and retaliation is part of the culture of the agency

I have been working at University Settlement full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

You still have some good staff left

    Cons

Upper management are heartless and inconsiderate, their only priority is their personal agenda. Making changes without warning and disrespectful behavior towards staff and families. No longer getting children registered due to bad reputation. Last year the program was on the news due to negligence of management for not informing parents of pervasive contagious conditions in the classroom. The good staff are leaving... in big numbers. Teachers leaving and new staff that are not trained or familiar with culture of the neighborhood.

Program is suffering due upper management questionable agendas and practices. Needs better upper management to save the program.

I have been working at University Settlement full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

some of the staff are caring.

    Cons

New management are not professionals, treating staff very poorly, extremely stressful environment, lots of staff leaving and/or looking to get out. Many complaints from parents that are not been heard by upper management. The good caring staff are leaving and being replaced by staff not reflecting of the neighborhood, very sad, this program used to be a great place for families and children but no longer the... case. Program out of compliance because they can fill out classrooms as before because parents are leaving and going to better managed day care sites.

    Advice to Management

If you can't listen to the families that make your program is time to leave and let someone else do a better job. You destroying the program.
