    I worked at University Settlement

    Pros

The clients are amazing and really motivate you to continue a high level of engagement and work. Work environment is fine, many issues handled promptly.

    Cons

Managers do not always have experience in your field, which makes it difficult when issues occur. Instead of being able to rely on your supervisor to brainstorm ways around a client issue, you have to overly rely on your coworkers, who are already over extended.

    Advice to Management

Make sure proper supports exist for employees. Employees should not be training and acclimating their managers to the field in which the manager is hired to supervise.

I have been working at University Settlement full-time

    Pros

Definitely the coworkers and work environment is fantastic here. Working for a great cause with people who are extremely dedicated to what they do, is always a wonderful thing. Laid back atmosphere, practical and caring management team. Clients who are equally wonderful and appreciative of what the organizations does for them.

    Cons

The atmosphere is sometimes too relaxed and can have a aura of non professionalism at times. It's also a non-profit so some individuals are over worked and need more support. The Salary is competitive in some programs and others it's definitely below the benchmark for even a non-profit.

    Advice to Management

While most of the funding is restricted there should be more focus on a business model that can help support overhead that would help create more opportunities for staff and perhaps be able to provide a better salary. Also creating a open opportunity for peer feedback would be helpful. Communicating more cross program acknowledgements.
