    Positive Outlook

I worked at University of Alaska full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers were very friendly, and the atmosphere of the office was very productive. Being a small group, everyone knew everyone, and got along well. Even as a student worker, I was responsible for my own work, and there was no micromanagement.

    Cons

My biggest complaint would just be a lack of mentor-ship. Being put onto a project largely meant that for most of my time there, being the only one involved in iOS development, there was nobody to engage with on the code, and if the results were of acceptable quality.

    Advice to Management

More interaction with the student employees. Just checking over their work and giving feedback would be a very useful and valuable experience, especially as we were training ourselves to get ready to go out into the workforce.

I worked at University of Alaska full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

If you are in the right department, you can work on interesting projects with pleasant people and not much bureaucracy. The town has beautiful summers and nice people.

    Cons

If you are in the wrong department (so I hear), office politics and bureaucracy can be bad. Make sure you have some indoor hobbies to occupy yourself with during the 8 month winter.

    Advice to Management

For the department I worked in, I have no advice for management. They did a good job.
