    Pros

Very competitive pay, with excellent resources available for any direction your research may take you. They offer a very wide variety of research areas, and are at (or very near) the top of the field with many cutting edge technologies. The professors who run the labs are extremely competent. They help to give your project direction, as well as allowing you the freedom to take your project in a whole new direction.

    Cons

Not many. Only thing that comes to mind, is the lack of encouragement while the professors are on sabbatical, but I guess that isn't the Universities fault as much as it is my timing.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Great to make contacts and learn more regarding specific research topics. It was well worth the time to investigate the effects of different additives on ceramic structures.

    Cons

It was boring at times and repetitive. Sometimes, the management didn't really seem to care too much and didn't supervise very well.

    Advice to Management

Try to offer more words of encouragement and do better training of their students. Sometimes, it might be good if they helped perform the experiments as well.

I have been working at University of British Columbia full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people, good medical and dental benefits and tons of training funds to help you develop professionally. Many departments on campus with diverse career opportunities for talented hardworking people.

    Cons

A large institutional can be slow to change and at times the bureaucracy may not be sensitive to immediate deadlines.

I have been working at University of British Columbia full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The university is still growing and has great potential. I enjoyed the international flair.

    Cons

Sometimes seemed like a high school and less than a "mature" university (compared to European Universities). The work speed often seemed slow and senior employes had long lunch breaks and spend hours decorating the office for christmas.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work but think more carefully how you delegate budgets and on what you invest.

It is a very big university and offers all conceivable courses.
It is located in an awesome city, Vancouver.

Cost of living in Vancouver is a bit high but that would be the case for any big city.

I worked at University of British Columbia full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

To be a staff of the University of British Columbia is very interesting and very challenging and you
will be pround to tell your friends that you are working in the second largest university of Canada.

    Cons

You cannot work overtime without pay because it is under the CUPE 2950 and very strict to impose
and you will be in trouble if you insist to work beyond your time unless if it is overtime with pay.

    Advice to Management

During job interviews, if someone was not too good during the interview, he/she might be a very
good employee if you give him/her a chance.
