I worked at University of Calgary full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I enjoyed everyday I worked there, primarily because of the position I had as Student Ombudsperson. Helping students was the best thing about it.

    Cons

Politics. Position was funded by University, Grad Students and Student Union. I moved offices 4 times in 20 months and had three bosses in the first 12 months. In the end the Student Union torpedoed my job by threatening to withdraw funding. A elected Student thought she was my 'boss' even though she never met with me and I never met the SU executive...petty student. I loved working there..not so much the politics.

    Advice to Management

It was a poorly managed process. Micromanaging has its limits.
