    Pros

    They offer tutions support, great for those returning to school or have children

    Cons

    Ton of stress, not enough support or pay, which significantly affects morale.

    Advice to Management

    Get employee to review managers as well to ensure they treat all fairly

    I have been working at University of Calgary full-time

    Pros

    Young university in a clean environment.
    Good working environment for engineers and medical research but not for scientists conducting basic sciences.
    Has a potential to be a good university.

    Cons

    Not very visible internationally.
    Poor leadership by incompetent people.
    Focus primarily on management, and not much vision for the future education and research

    Advice to Management

    Academic inbreeding needs need to be eliminated.
    The number of administrators need to be reduced (25% of current high level administrators and their associates/assistants can be cut, and the university will be just fine).

    Proximity to home for me is great
    Career opps (medium, depends)

    Cons

    Bureaucratic despite claiming enterprising, innovative, entrepreneurial focused
    Union works for and against you in term of advancement, intreprenuerism
    Flexibility options are dependent on your manager
    Dinosaur in terms of work culture
    Performance management is top down only (no 360 feedback)

    I have been working at University of Calgary as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good academic environment, good international grad students, Some profs are really friendly and helpful.

    Cons

    overall, the future is uncertain about Calgary, industry and uofc and oil industry. Avoid if you can.

    I worked at University of Calgary (More than a year)

    Pros

    benefits, dental care. Buildings are clean and new. Location is great.

    Cons

    Management is extremely wasteful,, disorganized, ineffective. Had to do many days of overtime, and was told I would be payed per hour for those many many hours, but was refused. Productivity of team was low and work was inefficiently done as a result.

    Advice to Management

    Watch management more carefully. Be more organized and effective in managing money, time, and talent.

    Pros

    Hours are great at the University. Done every day by 4:30 and able to bank time for any overtime hours worked.

    Cons

    Very political in the administrative offices. Unnecessary paper work to get simple tasks completed. No autonomy.
