I have been working at University of California Berkeley full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Cooperative co-workers with not a lot of personal agenda setting and office politics.
Interesting and interested coworkers who by and large like their jobs.
Supportive management with a fair amount of transparency.
Great personal satisfaction from working for education and students.
Unique mix of commerce (making money for the state) and service to the community (providing opportunities for students to learn, grown and achieve).

    Cons

More standardized training for new hires would be great.
Not a great place for advancement because there's not a lot of movement.

    Advice to Management

Establish internal "internships" so that employees can learn nuts and bolts about other people's job and promote interdepartmental understanding.
