I have been working at University of California Berkeley part-time

    Pros

I love working at the moffitt makerspace! The free use of 3d printers for students is great, and the open space for collaboration and making is good too.

    Cons

Some of the 3d printers break quite often.

I have been working at University of California Berkeley full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

UC Berkeley has a supportive culture, realistic and useful employee protections, and a fair wage/salary system as a public/state institution.

    Cons

The bureaucracy is real! There are redundancies and layers of people to work with in order to get some of the simpler things done in the name of standardization. Good intentions, sometimes incredibly frustrating.

    Advice to Management

Keep listening to your employees, take us seriously, and hire socially responsive people for top management positions.

I have been working at University of California Berkeley part-time

    Pros

The hours are flexible and the employers understand that you are a student so academics take precedent in your life.

    Cons

It was very hard to find a work study job because so many potential employers simply did not respond to my applications on the work study portal

    Advice to Management

Please remove job listings if they have been filled so that students don't waste their time reaching out

I worked at University of California Berkeley full-time

    Pros

The breath and complexity of Berkeley means you can find your niche and really connect with an area you are passionate about.

    Cons

The way the financials are structured and overlap between departments it creates some real confusion and turf wars. Too much time spent on non productive work.

    Advice to Management

Less time on politics more time on clear goals and delivery

I have been working at University of California Berkeley full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Streamlining of systems and procedures is ongoing- feels like a work in progress. My experience with the job itself (outside of navigating the larger school infrastructure) has been positive, but is specific to my project and my relationships with my supervisor and team members.

    Cons

Bureaucratic- takes a long time for anything to get done because every team seemingly across every support function (HR, IT, etc), is under-resourced and stretched to the max.

  10. "Great people"
